PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Calros Vasquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Fadden (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fadden has chosen From Hell by Faces Of Mars as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Calros Vasquez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jack Fadden!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vasquez fails with a takedown attempt.
Vasquez really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Vasquez is defended easily by Fadden.
Vasquez closes this distance looking for a takedown but Fadden circles away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Calros Vasquez. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Fadden changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Vasquez looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Vasquez is trying to get back to half guard.

Fadden is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Vasquez has escaped the position, nice work there.
Vasquez is trying to control Fadden's posture but Fadden avoids it.
Vasquez is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Fadden is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Fadden looks up at the clock and then as Vasquez takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Fadden smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Vasquez tries to bench press Fadden off him but Fadden keeps the position.

Vasquez is looking to regain half guard here but Fadden keeps moving and retains side control.
Vasquez manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Fadden tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Vasquez wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Fadden, who protects the arm well.

Vasquez goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Fadden turns into him and now he's in Vasquez's guard.
Fadden is in close to Vasquez's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Fadden in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Vasquez lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Fadden!
Vasquez moves to the back position.

Vasquez is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Fadden knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Fadden for a finish.

Vasquez is not going to allow Fadden to sit and survive in this position.
Fadden wants to escape the position.

Vasquez is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Fadden defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
Vasquez is breathing heavily.

Vasquez has got his arm under Fadden's chin working for the choke… has he got it? It looks pretty tight! Oh! Fadden has spun round into Vasquez's guard beautifully! Well done that man!

A close round but Jack Fadden will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Fadden tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Vasquez paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Vasquez gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Fadden counters by clinching up.
Vasquez managing to block the knees to the body from Fadden.

Fadden gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Vasquez.
Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Fadden obliges.
Fadden digs a right hand into Vasquez's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Vasquez's gas tank.

Fadden breaks the clinch.

Vasquez shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Fadden napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Vasquez wants to pass the guard but Fadden is keeping the position.

Vasquez is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Fadden has his feet on Vasquez's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Vasquez wants to clinch

and Fadden holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Fadden lands a nice knee to the body.
Fadden lands an elbow just above Vasquez 's eye.


It looks like Calros Vasquez has been cut.

Fadden escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Vasquez shoots and misses

and Fadden counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Vasquez drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Fadden gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Fadden unloads a knee to the mid-section. Vasquez lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.

Fadden looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Vasquez postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Fadden is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Vasquez, into his guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Fadden distracts Vasquez with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Jack Fadden has got the better of the ground game so far.
Fadden lands a couple of elbows.
Vasquez avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Vasquez is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Fadden defends well.
Vasquez will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Fadden working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Vasquez's head.
Fadden is looking to work some ground and pound but Vasquez has wrist control.

Fadden is working Vasquez over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Fadden wants to stand but Vasquez has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Fadden lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Fadden must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Fadden scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Fadden wants to control from the top but Vasquez keeps moving.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Fadden closes the distance and clinches.
Vasquez changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Fadden fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Fadden has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Vasquez uses from the top position.

Jack Fadden showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's time! Vasquez's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Vasquez slips nicely into half guard.
Fadden flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Vasquez with a poor takedown

and Fadden decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Vasquez's guard.

Fadden looking to improve position, pressing down on Vasquez's thigh with his hand. Vasquez seems to be working to lock up a guilotine though... is Fadden paying attention? Apparently not! He's locked it up tight! Fadden's face has turned purple! Will he tap? Will he! YES! He's tapped! Vasquez picked his opening and made it count! Great finish!
