The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, John Roberts and Alyssa Summers.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fight moves into the clinch position.
Thompson has clasped his hands together around Maldonado's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Maldonado wants to get back to his feet but Thompson drags him back down.
Maldonado is looking to regain half guard here but Thompson keeps moving and retains side control.
Thompson is staying tight to Maldonado's torso, preventing him from escaping.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Thompson seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Maldonado for as long as he can get away with.
The strikes coming from Thompson are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Thompson is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Maldonado will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
You can see the frustration on Maldonado's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Thompson prevents Maldonado from escaping the position.
Maldonado trying to control but Thompson flips him over like a cheap hooker and has his back!

Thompson misses with punches from the back.
Maldonado controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position.
Maldonado wants to escape the position.
Thompson has the hooks in and he's looking for a rear naked choke here. Maldonado is defending well but eventually Thompson manages to get an arm under the chin and he's locked on the RNC! Maldonado has no choice but to tap now! He does! This one is all over!
