PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Daniel Nilsson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Abdul Malik (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Malik is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Soldier Side. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Daniel Nilsson!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Abdul Malik!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, William Gold and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Malik looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Nilsson is fending him off so far but Malik persists. Nope, Nilsson circles away and we're back to standing.
A punch combination from Malik misses.
Malik throws a right and a left that both miss.
Malik fails to land with a series of punches.

Nilsson clinches with his opponent.
Malik wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Malik avoids the elbow strike from Nilsson, against the cage.
Nilsson is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Nilsson tries to pull guard but Malik holds him up against the cage and eventually Nilsson drops back down to his feet.
Malik wants to get back to striking at distance but Nilsson won't allow it.

Nilsson breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Poor strikes thrown by Nilsson there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Nilsson jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Malik manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Malik tries to improve position but can't.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Malik throws a right hand that Nilsson ducks under and follows up with a left that Nilsson also avoids with ease.
Malik misses with a low kick.
Malik throws a right and a left that both miss.
Nilsson tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Malik keeps the fight on the outside.

Malik feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Malik must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Nilsson is looking for a triangle but Malik pushes his legs off easily.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Malik accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Nilsson throws his legs up looking for a submission but Malik uses it to pass to side control.
You can see the frustration on Nilsson's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Nilsson is looking for a sweep. Malik is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Nilsson makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Nilsson.
Nilsson bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Malik's guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Daniel Nilsson will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Nilsson has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Malik gets to his feet. Nilsson looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Nilsson shoots in for a double leg but Malik sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Malik has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Nilsson is working away from the top position though.

Malik escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Nilsson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Nilsson connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Malik momentarily.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Malik has his takedown stuffed

so Nilsson counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Malik working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Nilsson doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Malik is tightening it up a little... Nilsson has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Nilsson reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Nilsson taps out! nice BJJ there by Malik!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:23 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Abdul Malik!
