The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Angle closes the distance and clinches. Angle gets a nice trip takedown into half guard. Monardes looking for submissions off his back. Monardes wants to get back to full guard. Monardes regains full guard. Nicely done. Angle wants to control from the top but Monardes keeps moving. Monardes escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Angle gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Monardes is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Angle avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Angle showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Monardes looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Monardes has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Angle is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Monardes. Angle controls the position from side control. Monardes manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. Angle not doing much here.
Monardes is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Angle pulls his head out easily.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Monardes looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Still in half guard, Angle seems content to control. Monardes actively working from the bottom here. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Monardes looks gassed! Monardes looking for submissions off his back. Monardes is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Angle pulls his head out easily. Angle knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Monardes on the ground.

Angle with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Monardes actively working from the bottom here. Angle is taking a breather. Monardes says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Barack Angle. Angle darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Monardes looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Monardes moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Oh but Monardes has switched to an armbar! Angle is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
