PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Nathan Gould (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Rock (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gould's entrance music is skillet-monster. A fine choice. Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Nathan Gould!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, John Rock!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Summer Carpenter and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rock rushes Gould and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Gould looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
Rock trying to stall but Gould improves his position.

Rock has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Gould uses from the top position.

Gould drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Rock dives on top into guard.
Gould keeping moving, preventing Rock from controlling successfully.
Rock is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Rock accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Rock tries to stand but Gould is controlling from the bottom.
Rock stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gould swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Rock would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Rock instigates a clinch.
Rock gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Gould.
Rock is trying to drag Gould to the mat but Gould just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Rock is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Still in half guard, Rock seems content to control.

Rock is trying to work for a kimura but Gould is defending well.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Rock in particular looking to stall.
Rock works his way into side control.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Gould is not content to let Rock control the position.
Rock sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Gould is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Rock dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Rock's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Rock duly obliges.

Rock moves into the clinch successfully.

Nathan Gould seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rock fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Rock looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Gould doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Rock counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters.
Rock lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Gould swats away the attempt to clinch by Rock.

and Rock counters with a one-two to the body.


It looks like Nathan Gould has been cut.

Rock looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Gould!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Rock misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Rock looking to control and managing it successfully.
Rock wants to control the pace but Gould is squirming around nicely.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Rock misses with a head shot.

Rock tries to control but Gould wriggling away.

Rock with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Rock throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Rock goes for an armbar but Gould turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Gould.

Gould drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. Gould seems to have locked his on tight now - Rock screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for Gould, as he picks up the win!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:50 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kneebar). Nathan Gould!
