Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Gijs Groosman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Slow (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gijs Groosman has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Gijs Groosman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Joe Slow!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, John Mangel and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fighters circle momentarily. Groosman darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
No luck for Slow with that takedown attempt.
Slow misses with a double jab.

Slow is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Groosman's half guard.
Slow not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Groosman is trying to maintain the position but Slow is very close to passing his half guard.
Slow wants to stand but Groosman has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Slow tries to pass the half guard into mount. Groosman knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Slow lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Groosman is staying active underneath Slow, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Slow throws a right hand that Groosman ducks under and follows up with a left that Groosman also avoids with ease.

Groosman swings and misses with a hook to the body.

so Slow counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Groosman working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Slow doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Slow manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Slow has gone for a leg lock! Groosman slips out almost immediately though and dives into Slow's guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Groosman tries to free his leg and advance position but Slow is retaining full guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Slow is trying to hold Groosman in close to prevent damage but Groosman has managed to pass into half guard.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Groosman misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Gijs Groosman is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Slow drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Slow accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Slow is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Groosman is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Groosman has escaped and now he's on top!

Slow manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Groosman manages to get himself to full guard.

Slow got a little sloppy there for a moment and Groosman has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Slow has managed to get both his arms back between Groosman's legs - danger averted.
Slow seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Slow looking to sit in guard and control but Groosman gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Slow might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Groosman kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Slow is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Groosman dives into side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joe Slow showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Groosman rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Slow moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

and Slow counters with a two punch combo.

Slow slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Slow shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Slow bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Slow tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Groosman was well out of range. Poor timing from Slow.
Groosman bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Slow's head.
Slow looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Groosman is fending him off so far but Slow persists. Nope, Groosman circles away and we're back to standing.
Slow ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Groosman scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.

Slow takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Groosman walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Joe Slow seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Slow scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Joe Slow comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Slow has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
