Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Pablo Ruenos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marijan Matijevic (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the ring.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Marijan Matijevic!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Felipe Paraventi and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ruenos shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Matijevic as he jumps to the side.
Ruenos misses with a takedown attempt - Matijevic sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Matijevic moves into range and clinches up with Ruenos.

Matijevic has Ruenos pressed up against the ropes. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Matijevic pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Ruenos tumbling to the mat - Matijevic dives into Ruenos's guard.
Ruenos really is a fat lump.
Matijevic working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Matijevic accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Ruenos is pulling down on Matijevic's head. It's preventing any offense from Matijevic, at least for the moment.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Ruenos feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Ruenos drops back, looking for a kneebar! Matijevic looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Matijevic looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Matijevic!
Matijevic really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ruenos. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Ruenos is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Matijevic's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


No luck with that takedown attempt from Ruenos.
Ruenos fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Matijevic avoids it really well and circles away.
Matijevic keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Pablo Ruenos. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Ruenos tries to score a power double leg takedown but Matijevic sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Ruenos somewhat.

Matijevic is fighting to break Ruenos's control of his arms but Ruenos is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Ruenos shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Matijevic is trying to defend but Ruenos finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

That was a close second round but I would say that Pablo Ruenos will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

and Matijevic counters with a nice double leg into side control. Ruenos won't be happy with that.
Ruenos is not in a great position here, taking some shots.

Ruenos parries the strikes from Matijevic easily there. Matijevic is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Ruenos to escape.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Ruenos has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Matijevic is working away from the top position though.

Ruenos is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Matijevic is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Ruenos changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Matijevic fights it off and pushes away nicely.
