Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Shane Mason (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Cowelll (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mason comes to the cage accompanied by Senses Fail - Shark Attack. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nice takedown defense from Cowelll. No joy for Mason on that attempt. Cowelll swinging wildly here.
Cowelll connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt. Cowelll throws a series of punches but Mason avoids them all with ease. Cowelll circles away from the clinch attempt.
Cowelll bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut. Mason on the wrong end of a nice jab. Mason drives through and clinches with Cowelll against the cage.

Cowelll is trying to break the clinch but Mason is controlling him. Mason pulls guard. Cowelll working some strikes from top position. Cowelll throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Mason works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Mason trying to keep a closed guard but Cowelll is proving a slippery customer.

Cowelll is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range. Mason shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Cowelll defends it nicely. and Mason counters with a left and a right that stings Cowelll. Cowelll takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away. Cowelll throws a combination. Mason tries to block but a couple of punches get through. Mike Cowelll is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Cowelll throws a one two combo.
Mike Cowelll seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Nice shot by Cowelll. Cowelll stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Cowelll wants it to stay on the feet. Mason is breathing heavily. Cowelll looks to land a combination but Mason avoids it well. Cowelll is working the combinations to good effect here. Mason shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Cowelll as he jumps to the side. Cowelll scores with a one two! Mason had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes. Cowelll's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Cowelll duly obliges. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Cowelll scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction. Cowelll connects with a looping right hand.

Cowelll lands with a hook. Mason tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head. Mason throws a series of punches but Cowelll moves out of range. Cowelll connects with a right hand. Mason shakes it off. Mason fails with an attempt to clinch.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Cowelll, as that shot connected.
Mason shoots in but no luck this time. Mason looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.
That's three minutes gone in the round. A left lands for Cowelll. Cowelll lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Mason backs up against the cage.
Cowelll lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook. Cowelll connects with a single shot there.
Mason is rocked! Cowelll lands with a cross. Oh Mason is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Cowelll has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight. Cowelll lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Cowelll might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable. Nice uppercut there from Cowelll. Cowelll throws an overhand right from the outside, which connects and sends Mason stumbling backwards into the cage! Mason bounces back off the cage towards Cowelll, who cracks him with a two punch combination that drops him to his knees! Cowelll lands two more shots before the referee has chance to intervene - what a finish! Cowelll celebrates with his corner as the crowd cheer loudly.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:24 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Mike Cowelll!
