Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Hector Lombard! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 10 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Travis Cole! The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Aafke Stam and Patrick Alders.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cole scores with a takedown into Lombard's guard. Cole tries to stand but Lombard is controlling from the bottom. Lombard keeping moving, preventing Cole from controlling successfully. Cole wants to stand but Lombard is controlling his posture from full guard. Lombard pulls Cole in to control the position. Cole working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cole throwing strikes from guard but Lombard blocks nicely. Cole throws a strike but Lombard rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Lombard passes Cole's right leg, so he's now in half guard. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Cole is looking to improve his position.
Cole is trying to stand back up but Lombard is controlling him
Cole is staying active underneath Lombard, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Cole is pressing down on Lombard's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Lombard controlling from the top position. Lombard drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Cole manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Lombard has Cole in his guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Lombard manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Cole manages to get himself to full guard.
Lombard trying to control the position from guard on top but Cole is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Cole is looking to stand up but Lombard isn't so interested in that idea. Cole looks gassed! Lombard pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Cole is keeping the position for now.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Lombard's corner is telling him to maintain position. Lombard trying to control but Cole is working from the bottom. Lombard is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Cole is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Hector Lombard. Cole gets caught flat footed, as Lombard shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Lombard sitting in guard here, content to control. Lombard stops Cole from standing up.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Cole keeping moving, preventing Lombard from controlling successfully. Lombard controlling from the top position. Lombard seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Cole for as long as he can get away with.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Hector Lombard. Lombard drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Lombard thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Cole wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Lombard manages to pass to side control. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Hector Lombard dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Lombard feints and as Cole raises his hands in defense, Lombard changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Cole had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Lombard defends it easily. Lombard controlling from the top position. Cole wants to sweep here but Lombard controlling him for the moment. Lombard stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cole swivels though and keeps the full guard. Lombard sitting in guard here, content to control. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Lombard trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lombard not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Cole keeping moving, preventing Lombard from controlling successfully. Lombard looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Hector Lombard. Lombard closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Cole is pushing Lombard's head away, looking to escape. Lombard manages to hold on to the position though. Lombard tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Lombard taking a breather here. Lombard tries to advance to mount but Cole denies him. Lombard could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Cole is looking for a sweep.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cole tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck. Lombard controlling the pace for now.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Lombard has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Lombard looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet. Cole is squirming around, avoiding Lombard's attempts to control the action. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Lombard jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Cole manages to avoid the submission attempt. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Hector Lombard dominated that second round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Hector Lombard. Lombard drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Lombard is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Cole knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Cole looking for a sweep but Lombard has passed into full mount! Oh no! Lombard controlling his opponent. Cole working to try and regain half guard.
Lombard takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
That's one minute gone in the round. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Cole tries to get back to half guard but can't. Lombard looking to control and managing it successfully. Hector Lombard overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Lombard goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Cole is on top in guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Cole has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Lombard is proving hard to escape from. Lombard being controlled here, momentarily. Cole wants to stand up, so he's looking to wriggle free of Lombard's closed guard. He's half up but Lombard has locked on to an arm! Uh oh! Lombard pivots and extends the arm, Cole falls face first to the mat and taps??... does he?? YES! He's tapping! Excellent counter grappling there by Lombard! Well done that man!
