Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between ANDERSON SILVA (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joao Amaral (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Joao Amaral told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, ANDERSON SILVA! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Joao Amaral! The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Felipe Paraventi and Matheus Silva.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! SILVA has taken the fight to the clinch.
SILVA working hard to break the clinch. SILVA has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Amaral is trying to keep an underhook but SILVA manages to get the takedown into half guard. Amaral makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Amaral. SILVA is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Amaral wants to sweep but no luck. Amaral keeping moving, preventing SILVA from controlling successfully. Amaral wants to control but SILVA passes easily into half guard.
Amaral misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Amaral is trying to maintain the position but SILVA is very close to passing his half guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. SILVA throws a series of punches but Amaral moves out of range. Excellent takedown into side control there by Amaral. You can see the frustration on SILVA's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Amaral lands a decent elbow from side control. SILVA can't do much from the bottom here. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. SILVA is trying to improve his position. SILVA is working to avoid the ground and pound but Amaral connects with a decent elbow. Amaral lands a nice forearm strike. Amaral working the head and body with strikes.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Amaral trying to control the position but SILVA is working away. Amaral cracks SILVA with an elbow. That is naaassty. SILVA is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Amaral asserts his dominance and retains side control. SILVA taking a bit of punishment here - Amaral scoring with strikes. SILVA is breathing heavily. Amaral works to advance to full mount. SILVA defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs. SILVA tries to reverse the position but Amaral maintains control. Amaral with a couple of short strikes. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. SILVA regains half guard. Amaral controlling the pace. Amaral is nestled in close to SILVA, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Amaral seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but SILVA does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Amaral connects with a nice short shot to SILVA's temple. Amaral looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. SILVA wants to get back to his feet.
Amaral prevents SILVA from improving his position. Amaral landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Amaral working over SILVA with some ground and pound. SILVA looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Amaral thows a huge punch but SILVA dodges it nicely.
Amaral is looking for a kimura but SILVA is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Amaral to get the leverage.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. SILVA is trying to control but can't.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. SILVA fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Amaral sprawls well initially but SILVA persists and gets the takedown into half guard. SILVA prevents Amaral from improving his position. SILVA thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Amaral missing with punches from the bottom.
SILVA postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Amaral to stand up. SILVA showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Amaral.
SILVA displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Joao Amaral will probably get the nod. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
SILVA throws the kick towards the body but Amaral avoids it. Amaral jabbing away but nothing is landing. SILVA feints and as Amaral raises his hands in defense, SILVA changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Amaral has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Amaral looking for submissions from the bottom but instead SILVA passes into side control.
SILVA landing strikes. Amaral gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. SILVA throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. SILVA wants to lay and pray for a moment but Amaral keeps working. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Amaral flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Amaral wants to control but SILVA passes into side.
Amaral looking for a sweep but SILVA has passed into full mount! Oh no! SILVA jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Amaral manages to avoid the submission attempt. SILVA landing with strikes to the head and body from side control. Amaral misses with an elbow from the bottom. Amaral is positioning himself to get back to half guard. SILVA is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Amaral is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Amaral tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. SILVA throws a wild combination but nothing lands. SILVA shoots and misses and Amaral decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in SILVA's guard. Amaral lands a couple of decent looking shots. Amaral trying to control the position from guard on top but SILVA is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Amaral pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. SILVA is keeping the position for now. SILVA is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Amaral gets full guard. Amaral looking to control.

SILVA is trying to control the action in half guard but Amaral is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. SILVA thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Amaral's head.
That's four minutes gone in the round. SILVA is trying to control. Amaral wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. SILVA is looking to advance position but Amaral won't allow it. Amaral slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Amaral is trying to control the position from the bottom.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. SILVA fails in his attempt to clinch. SILVA with a poor takedown and Amaral counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in SILVA's guard now. SILVA had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Amaral defends it easily. Amaral slips nicely into half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Joao Amaral showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

SILVA has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Amaral is proving hard to escape from. Amaral has momentary wrist control but SILVA slips an elbow through the middle. SILVA wants to control from the top but Amaral keeps moving. Amaral controlling the position. SILVA pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Amaral is keeping the position for now. Amaral is working an open guard so SILVA takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Both fighters are breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. SILVA with a poor takedown and Amaral counters with a nice double leg into side control. SILVA won't be happy with that. Amaral trying to control the action but SILVA is working from the bottom. SILVA is trying to get back to his feet. SILVA manages to work his way to half guard, despite Amaral's best efforts. Amaral looks to land a strike but SILVA avoids it nicely and regains full guard. SILVA wants to stand and escape but Amaral is having none of it. SILVA trying to control the position.

Amaral moves into full mount! Amaral postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. SILVA looks a forlorn figure.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Amaral wants to control but SILVA has made it back to half guard. Nice work. Amaral wants to control but SILVA is keeping him busy. SILVA has one foot on Amaral's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet. SILVA closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Amaral did well to prevent SILVA getting side control. Joao Amaral is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Amaral tries to get to full guard but SILVA has control of the leg. Amaral is pressing down on SILVA's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Amaral trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from! ANDERSON SILVA has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! SILVA trying to control the position from guard on top but Amaral is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Amaral pulls SILVA in close to prevent any damage.
That's four minutes gone in the round. SILVA stops Amaral from standing up. SILVA wants to pass the guard but Amaral is keeping the position. SILVA is working hard here to advance position. Amaral utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Amaral trying to control the position.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Amaral has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by SILVA. Amaral moves out of range of the body kick.
And that's the end of the fight! ANDERSON SILVA showed his dominance in that final round. I think Amaral has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
