Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Derek Muunhaus! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Brian Callaghan! The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Ren Mimura.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Callaghan shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Muunhaus as he avoids it easily. Muunhaus has Callaghan up against the cage in a clinch.
Muunhaus drops down looking for an ankle pick but Callaghan pulls his leg out and moves away.
Muunhaus fails in his attempt to clinch. Callaghan gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Callaghan is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Muunhaus passes into half guard. Muunhaus trying to advance position but Callaghan counters by regaining guard. Muunhaus passes easily into side control. Nice work. Muunhaus throwing strikes but Callaghan manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!
That's one minute gone in the round. You can see the frustration on Muunhaus's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Muunhaus tries to get back to half guard but can't. Callaghan tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Callaghan wants to control but Muunhaus is keeping him busy. Muunhaus looking for a sweep but Callaghan has passed into full mount! Oh no! Muunhaus really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Muunhaus regains half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Muunhaus is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Muunhaus gets full guard. Muunhaus looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Muunhaus is trying to control the position but Callaghan postures up. Callaghan wants to pass the guard but Muunhaus is keeping the position. Muunhaus looking to control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Muunhaus looking to hit a scissor sweep but Callaghan is one step ahead there. Muunhaus looking for a guillotine here but Callaghan defends easily.
Muunhaus is breathing heavily. Muunhaus is trying to control the position from the bottom.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Callaghan wants to control from the top but Muunhaus keeps moving. Muunhaus is pulling down on Callaghan's head to control his posture. Muunhaus looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Muunhaus has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Callaghan is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Muunhaus. Muunhaus is trying to work for a sweep but Callaghan has mounted him! Callaghan landing shots from mount. Muunhaus swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing. Callaghan raining down shots from the mount!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Callaghan trying to control but Muunhaus is having none of it. Muunhaus in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head. Callaghan can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Muunhaus is looking to escape. Muunhaus slips a leg in and gets back to half guard. Muunhaus is looking to improve his position.
Muunhaus gets full guard. Callaghan trying to stand up but can't free himself from Muunhaus's guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Muunhaus has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Callaghan is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Muunhaus. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Derek Muunhaus dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Callaghan misses with a takedown and Muunhaus counters with a single leg into guard. Callaghan didn't expect that. Callaghan being controlled here, momentarily. Muunhaus slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Muunhaus thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Muunhaus looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Callaghan is avoiding damage well.
Muunhaus moves into full mount! A nice elbow there by Muunhaus.
Callaghan is rocked!
It looks like Brian Callaghan has been cut. Callaghan is breathing heavily. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage! Muunhaus looking for a guillotine from mount but Callaghan is having none of it. Muunhaus is working close to his opponent, looking to work a submission by the looks of things. Oh, he's managed to get a guillotine from mount as his opponent reached up! That looks tiiiiight! Will he tap? YES, he's tapped! Impressive submission by Muunhaus!
