PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Migeal Quintes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lincoln Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Migeal Quintes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Lincoln Jones!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Bruno Lombardi and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jones gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Jones tries to throw a body punch but Quintes avoids it by throwing Jones back against the cage.
Jones changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Quintes fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Quintes tries to clinch up.
Quintes swats away the attempt to clinch by Jones.
Quintes shoots in and drives through. Jones sprawls well.
Lincoln Jones seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Jones gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Jones's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Jones throws a series of punches but Quintes moves out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Quintes misses with a leg kick.
Jones wants to clinch
and Quintes counters with a three punch combo that has Jones backing up. Jones nods at Quintes to acknowledge the strikes.

Quintes moves into the clinch.

Jones breaks the clinch.

Jones tries for a takedown but Quintes circles away easily
enabling Quintes to counter with a crisp jab.
Quintes closes the distance looking to clinch
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Quintes shoots and misses

and Jones counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Jones.
Jones is fighting to break Quintes's control of his arms but Quintes is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Quintes is trying to control the position but Jones postures up.
Quintes working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Jones.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Jones accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Jones is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Quintes not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Jones controls from within his opponent's guard.

Quintes working for a triangle but Jones defends it easily.
Jones slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Quintes is trying to control the position but Jones postures up.
Jones working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Quintes keeping moving, preventing Jones from controlling successfully.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Quintes darts in and clinches Jones up against the cage.
Quintes avoiding damage as Jones throws knees to the body.

Jones breaks the clinch.
Quintes takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Quintes stuffs the takedown.
Migeal Quintes has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lincoln Jones.

Jones shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Quintes is trying to defend but Jones finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Quintes is looking for a sweep. Jones is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Jones is looking to advance position but Quintes won't allow it.
Quintes wants to get back to full guard.
Jones wants to lay and pray for a moment but Quintes keeps working.
Jones is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Jones is pressing down on Quintes's thigh, looking to free his foot. Quintes is holding on for now.
Jones seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Quintes does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Jones stuns Quintes with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Lincoln Jones will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Quintes shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Jones manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Quintes wants to pass the guard but Jones is keeping the position.
Jones has control of Quintes's left arm, preventing Quintes from doing any damage.

Quintes decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Quintes wants to clinch but Jones slips to the side

and Jones counters with a shoot takedown. Quintes fights it but they end up in guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jones trying to control the position from guard on top but Quintes is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Quintes is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Jones misses with a head shot. Quintes uses the momentum to regain guard.
Jones wants to control from the top but Quintes keeps moving.
Jones throwing strikes from guard but Quintes blocks nicely.
Jones postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Jones avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Migeal Quintes is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Jones swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

so Quintes counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Quintes wants to control from the top but Jones keeps moving.
Jones has a closed guard, preventing Quintes from standing up.
Quintes trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Jones has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Quintes has passed into side control.
Jones gets back to half guard.

Quintes not doing much here.
Quintes tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Jones is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Jones is refusing to be controlled, as Quintes sits in half guard.
Jones tries to get to full guard but Quintes has control of the leg.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Migeal Quintes will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Jones bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Jones thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Quintes is pushing Jones's head away, looking to escape. Jones manages to hold on to the position though.
Jones takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Quintes pushes Jones away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Jones gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Quintes is looking for a sweep.
Quintes is not content to let Jones control the position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Jones fails to land the takedown.
Quintes darts in trying to clinch

and Jones counters with a nice double leg into side control. Quintes won't be happy with that.

Jones throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Quintes works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.
Jones throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Quintes controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.
Quintes is refusing to be controlled, as Jones sits in half guard.
Jones throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Quintes fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Jones avoids it really well and circles away.
Jones throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Quintes's waist but Quintes gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Jones off to one side.
Migeal Quintes has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lincoln Jones.
Jones moves in looking to clinch but Quintes pushes him off.

Jones is looking to take a break and control but Quintes is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Quintes can't do much from the bottom here.
Jones is trying to ground and pound but Quintes uses the momentary lack of control by Jones to regain half guard.
Quintes tries to roll over but Jones keeps him under control.

Lincoln Jones comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Jones has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
