Hardwick comes to the cage accompanied by ZZ Top - Sharp Dressed Man. Montoya has chosen The Godfather as his entrance music. Carlito Montoya has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Montoya moves into range and connects with a jab.
Hardwick throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Montoya sees it coming and avoids it easily.
A head kick misses from Montoya.
Hardwick throws a looping overhand right but Montoya ducks down to avoid it.
Montoya connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.

Montoya tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Montoya displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Hardwick throws out the jab.
Hardwick fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Montoya manages to avoid it.

Hardwick wants to lay and pray for a moment but Montoya keeps working.
Hardwick stops Montoya from getting back to his feet.
Montoya is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Hardwick scores with a couple of nice shots.

Hardwick has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Hardwick working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Montoya is refusing to be controlled, as Hardwick sits in half guard.
Montoya is looking to escape.

Hardwick is pressing down on Montoya's thigh, looking to free his foot. Montoya is holding on for now.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Montoya pushes Hardwick off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Montoya throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Hardwick throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Montoya throws a nice looking combination but Hardwick bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

That was a close round but I would say that Jason Hardwick will probably get the nod.

The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.

Montoya throws a right and a left that both miss.
Montoya slips a straight right by Hardwick.
Hardwick fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Montoya manages to avoid it.
Hardwick takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Hardwick is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Montoya.

Carlito Montoya is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Hardwick fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Montoya manages to avoid it.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Montoya cracks Hardwick with a right hand to the side of the head.
Hardwick shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Montoya but Montoya pushes him off and we're back to square one.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jason Hardwick. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hardwick misses with an uppercut.
Montoya throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Hardwick stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Montoya wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Montoya lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Hardwick throws a series of punches but Montoya moves out of range.
Hardwick throws a right hand that Montoya ducks under and follows up with a left that Montoya also avoids with ease.
Hardwick swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
The crowd cheers as Montoya lands an impressive looking overhand right. Hardwick doesn't seem phased though.
Carlito Montoya is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Montoya misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Montoya lands a big head kick that sends Hardwick tumbling to the mat! Montoya takes a step backwards and waves Hardwick back to his feet - he wants the finish!

It looks like Jason Hardwick has been cut.
Montoya closes the distance and lands a crisp combination that knocks Hardwick out cold! Hardwick corner are devastated, head in hands behind our commentary position. Poor guys.
