Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kenji Kuraba (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Takeshi Sendo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kenji Kuraba could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Takeshi Sendo's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kenji Kuraba!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Takeshi Sendo!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Ren Mimura and Taro Takaoka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sendo takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

Kuraba forces Sendo back against the cage and clinches.
Kuraba is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Kuraba keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Sendo's efforts to push away.

Sendo breaks the clinch.

Kuraba feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Sendo is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Sendo trying to keep a closed guard but Kuraba is proving a slippery customer.
Kuraba might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Kuraba is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Sendo is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Sendo has escaped and now he's on top!

Kuraba working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Sendo doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Sendo manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Kuraba is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Kuraba looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Sendo must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Sendo throws a strike but Kuraba rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Kuraba drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Kuraba jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Sendo not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Kuraba passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Sendo is trying to improve his position.

Kuraba tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Kuraba thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Sendo tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sendo turns into Kuraba and is now in his guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Sendo trying to control the position from guard on top but Kuraba is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Kuraba is trying to control the position but Sendo postures up.
Kuraba wants to stand and escape but Sendo is having none of it.

Kuraba pushes a forearm under Sendo's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Sendo is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Kenji Kuraba!
