Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Anthony Ellison! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Evander Roy! The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Skip Squint and Hugh Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! No luck with that takedown attempt from Roy. Roy doesn't manage to clinch there - Ellison circles away.
Ellison takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Roy throws a head kick that half lands.
Ellison fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Roy avoids it really well and circles away. Ellison throws a body kick that digs right into the meat. Roy has Ellison up against the cage in a clinch.
Roy drops down looking for an ankle pick but Ellison pulls his leg out and moves away.
Roy misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Anthony Ellison has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Evander Roy. Excellent takedown into side control there by Ellison.
That's one minute gone in the round. Roy avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Ellison. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Roy is working to avoid the ground and pound but Ellison connects with a decent elbow. Roy manages to work his way to half guard, despite Ellison's best efforts. Roy is looking for a sweep. Ellison is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Roy makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Roy. Ellison has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Ellison wants to get up but he can't break Roy's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Roy looking to hit a scissor sweep but Ellison is one step ahead there. Ellison throwing strikes from guard but Roy blocks nicely.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Roy throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Ellison's waist but Ellison gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Roy off to one side. Ellison shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Roy sprawls well. Roy wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Ellison gets slowly back to his feet. Ellison moves into range and clinches up with Roy. Ellison tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Roy smiles and moves away.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Roy patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here? Ellison is trying to stand back up. Roy scores with punches and elbows. Roy connects with a series of strikes and the referee is calling for Ellison to escape the position.

Ellison trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble. Roy punches the canvas rather than the man. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Ellison breaks Roy's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

Roy let out a lung full of air as it connected. Nice elbow from Ellison.
It looks like Evander Roy has been cut. A nice right hand lands inside from Ellison. Roy goes for a takedown attempt but Ellison pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Roy lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh. Ellison shoots in but no luck this time. Roy clinches with his opponent.

That's one minute gone in the round. Horrible takedown by Ellison or perhaps it was just good defense by Roy which made him look bad. Ellison moves in looking to clinch but Roy pushes him off. Ellison throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Roy was covering up waiting for the punch and Ellison finishes the takedown easily into guard. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Roy punching to the body, from the bottom. Roy trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from! Ellison stands and steps away. Roy gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Roy is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Ellison's half guard. Roy missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

Ellison is looking to improve his position but Roy isn't that keen on the idea. Roy sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it! Roy thowing shots but they're missing. Roy throws some wild stikes that Ellison manages to avoid easily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Roy looking to ground and pound but Ellison is blocking nicely. Roy looking to secure an arm triangle but Ellison defends it well. Roy takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Roy trying to control but Ellison is having none of it. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Roy has hold of Ellison's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Ellison manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Ellison blocking the ground and pound. Roy fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Roy jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Ellison is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Ellison and Roy has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Roy creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Ellison sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike. Roy working the ground and pound but Ellison is defending the strikes. Ellison is trying to get back to half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Roy wants to lay and pray for a moment but Ellison keeps working. Roy is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Ellison is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Roy wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Ellison, who protects the arm well. Roy in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Roy trying to control the action but Ellison is working from the bottom.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Roy gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Ellison counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Ellison. Ellison with a nice head shot there. Roy trying to control the position.
Ellison seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Ellison throwing strikes but missing. Ellison postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Ellison pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Roy is keeping the position for now. Roy had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Ellison defends it easily.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Anthony Ellison. I think Ellison has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
