Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Frank Powers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jim Saliva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 8 - 0, fighting out of London, Frank Powers!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Jim Saliva!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, James Ackerman and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Saliva stuffs the takedown attempt from Powers. Powers gets slowly back to his feet.

Powers gets caught flat footed, as Saliva shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Powers wants to stand but Saliva is controlling the position.
Saliva trying to control but Powers is working from the bottom.
Powers throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Powers throwing strikes off his back to little effect.

Powers is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Saliva scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

Powers is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Saliva lands a couple of digs.
Saliva has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Powers is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Saliva stands and steps away. Powers gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Saliva stands and throws Powers's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Saliva tries for a kimura but Powers is defending well.
Powers is pushing Saliva's head away, looking to escape. Saliva manages to hold on to the position though.

Saliva is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Powers knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Saliva throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.

Powers has his takedown stuffed
and Saliva counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

and Saliva counters with a takedown into side control.

Saliva wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Powers, who protects the arm well.

Powers is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Saliva asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Saliva is chipping away with strikes.
Powers is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Saliva stands up and beckons Powers to his feet.
Saliva scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Powers with a lazy takedown attempt
and Saliva counters with a three punch combo that has Powers backing up. Powers nods at Saliva to acknowledge the strikes.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Saliva misses with a series of wild punches.
Powers tries for a takedown but Saliva circles away easily

and Saliva decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Powers's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jim Saliva dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Saliva lands with a right hand.
Frank Powers seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Saliva paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
A left and a right from Saliva both land. Nice combination.
Saliva with a nice cross.

Saliva drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Saliva drops back, looking for a kneebar! Powers looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Powers looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Powers!

Powers thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Jim Saliva has got the better of the ground game so far.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Saliva is pushing Powers's head away, looking to escape. Powers manages to hold on to the position though.

The ground and pound from Powers seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Saliva is not content to let Powers control the position.

Powers thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Saliva is pushing Powers's head away, looking to escape. Powers manages to hold on to the position though.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Powers is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Saliva knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Powers misses with a takedown

and Saliva counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Powers's guard now.
Saliva is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Saliva has gone for a leg lock! Powers slips out almost immediately though and dives into Saliva's guard.
Powers thows a big elbow that misses.
Saliva wants to get back to his feet but Powers is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Powers trying to control but Saliva is working from the bottom.

Powers pushing down on Saliva's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Powers is looking to take a break and control but Saliva is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Saliva pushes Powers off looking to stand but Powers dives back in and keeps control.

Saliva has one foot on Powers's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Saliva throws a sloppy head kick and Powers moves out of range easily.
Powers looks to throw the jab but Saliva is out of range.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Saliva scores with a jab to the head.
Saliva jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Powers shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Saliva counters with a nice uppercut.
Powers misses with the combination.
Powers fails with the takedown
enabling Saliva to counter with a crisp jab.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Frank Powers. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A right-left combo lands from Saliva.
Saliva lands with a straight right. Powers didn't see that one coming.

Saliva fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Powers sprawls well initially but Saliva persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Powers is defending against the submission attempts here by Saliva.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jim Saliva showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Saliva tries to bum rush Powers with a series of wild strikes but Powers uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Powers slaps away a takedown attempt from Saliva, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Saliva throws a series of strikes that have Powers backpedaling.

Saliva closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Powers did well to prevent Saliva getting side control.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Powers looking to force a kimura from the bottom here. He's concentrating on that move too much though and Saliva pushes past his half guard into mount!

Saliva looking to control but Powers is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Powers is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Saliva can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Powers is looking to escape.
Saliva controlling the pace for now.

Saliva wants to control the pace but Powers is squirming around nicely.
Powers tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Powers defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Saliva.
Powers wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.

Saliva looking for the RNC.
Powers holding both Saliva 's hands and preventing any damage.

Powers tries to escape but Saliva has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
Powers prevents Saliva from getting a body triangle.
Saliva just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.
Saliva looking to soften up his opponent with punches.

Powers is trying to get back to his feet. He's worked up on to his knees and now he's on his feet with his head on the canvas, trying to shake Saliva off. It looks like it's working - Saliva slides off, much to his dismay, and we're back to standing! Powers displaying calm under pressure there.
Powers swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Saliva counters with a nice uppercut.

Powers sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Saliva scores with a nice head shot.
Saliva tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Saliva shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Powers manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Saliva thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Saliva is stalling in the full guard.
Saliva wants to control from the top but Powers keeps moving.
Frank Powers has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Jim Saliva.
Powers misses the jab.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jim Saliva comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Saliva has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
