PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ilo Porto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Masao Gensai (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Porto might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to No Apologies. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ilo Porto!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Masao Gensai!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Tatsuya Matsuyama.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Porto looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Gensai!

Porto stands up from mount. Strange move.
Ilo Porto seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gensai avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Porto shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Gensai napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Porto decides to stand back up.
Porto tries for a takedown but Gensai sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Gensai tries to clinch but Porto moves out of range.
Gensai lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
Porto shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Gensai pinned against the cage. Gensai gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
A head kick by Porto misses
and Gensai counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Porto could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Porto is breathing heavily.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Danga de danga de dang - Gensai scores with a four punch combination!
Gensai tries for a takedown but Porto circles away easily

and Porto counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Gensai is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Gensai had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Porto defends it easily.
Gensai not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Porto stands up and waves to Gensai to follow him.
Porto avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Porto leaves Gensai with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Porto misses with a combination
and Gensai counters with a head kick. That will keep Porto thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
Gensai fails with a takedown attempt.
Ilo Porto has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Masao Gensai.
Porto throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Gensai.
Gensai is trying hard to land a takedown here. Porto sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Porto drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Gensai tries to buck Porto off but Porto is having none of it.

Porto stands up.
Gensai wants to clinch.

Gensai tries to keep at a distance but Porto has taken the fight into the clinch.
Gensai lands a nice elbow.

Porto pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Porto gets the takedown into side control.

Porto stands up and we're back to a striking position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Porto sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.

Porto drives through and clinches with Gensai against the cage.
Porto is pushing Gensai up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Porto has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Gensai wants a takedown.

Porto escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Gensai tries to close the distance and clinch up but Porto swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Porto throws a sloppy head kick
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Porto throws a body punch but Gensai moves out of range.
Porto throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Gensai sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Gensai darts in trying to clinch
and Porto counters with a lovely straight right hand!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Porto takes a kick to the side of the head.

Porto moves into range and clinches up with Gensai.

Porto escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Porto closes the distance and clinches.
Gensai tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Porto just stands there and leans against the cage.

Porto breaks the clinch.
Gensai fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Porto pushing out the jab but it's not landing.

Porto darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Porto takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Porto decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ilo Porto dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Porto tries for a takedown but Gensai sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Gensai shoots in looking for a takedown. Porto tries to sprawl out of it but Gensai keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Porto manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Gensai.
Gensai shoots in and drives through. Porto sprawls well.
Ilo Porto has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Masao Gensai.
Gensai uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Porto.
Porto misses with a few strikes there.
Gensai defending well as Porto loads up on a big left hand.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gensai swinging wildly here.
Porto lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Gensai circles away quickly and effectively.

Porto fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Gensai sprawls well initially but Porto persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Gensai has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Porto is working away from the top position though.

Gensai is refusing to be controlled, as Porto sits in half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Porto stands up out of the half guard.
Porto is really struggling to find his range with his punches. Gensai's reach advantage is clearly causing him problems.
Porto throws an overhand right that lands on Gensai's shoulder, as Gensai tries to avoid the shot.
Porto misses with a jab, cross combination.
Porto is trying hard to land a takedown here. Gensai sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Gensai wants to clinch.
Porto tries to clinch there but Gensai circles away.
Gensai shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Porto defends it nicely.
Gensai throws a head kick but Porto moves out of range.

Porto rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Gensai moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Porto takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Porto doesn't manage to clinch there - Gensai circles away.
A combination from Porto does no damage.
Porto throws a nice looking combination but Gensai bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Gensai throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Porto's head.
Gensai lands with a good body shot.
Gensai throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Porto's waist but Porto gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Gensai off to one side.
Porto throws a nice looking combination but Gensai bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Porto tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Porto throws a body kick, spinning off balance
and Gensai counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Gensai shoots for a double leg takedown but Porto sprawls well. He's pushed Gensai's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Ilo Porto is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Porto misses with a double jab
and Gensai counters with a three punch combo that has Porto backing up. Porto nods at Gensai to acknowledge the strikes.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Porto fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Gensai closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Gensai misses with the ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Porto sneaks back into half guard.

Porto manages to escape and get back to his feet!

Gensai gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Porto wants to control from the top but Gensai keeps moving.

Porto stands up and waves to Gensai to follow him.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Porto throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Gensai counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Porto's guard now.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Porto trying to strike off his back.
Ilo Porto overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Gensai stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Porto swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Gensai must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Porto pushes Gensai off and scrambles back to his feet.
Gensai fails in his attempt to clinch.
Porto pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Porto gets a takedown into half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Porto prevents Gensai from improving his position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ilo Porto dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!



Porto looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Porto maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Gensai could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Porto has cracked it and Gensai is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Porto!
