PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Brent Carter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vincent Chase (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chase has chosen Gangsta Gangsta as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Brent Carter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Vincent Chase!
The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chase throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Carter.
Carter shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Chase sprawls well. Chase wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Carter gets slowly back to his feet.
Chase misses with a body kick.
No joy there for Chase, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Carter fails with an attempt to clinch.

Carter shoots in and bounces Chase off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Chase is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Chase seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Carter won't allow Chase to sweep him here.

Chase working for a triangle but Carter defends it easily.
Carter wants to control from the top but Chase keeps moving.
Carter controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Chase gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Carter to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Chase trying to control the position.
Carter sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Chase looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Carter drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Chase dives on top into guard.
Carter avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Chase pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Carter is keeping the position for now.

Chase tries to free his leg and advance position but Carter is retaining full guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Chase accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Carter wants to get back to his feet but Chase is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Chase trying to control but Carter is working from the bottom.
Carter is trying to control the position but Chase postures up.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Carter shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Chase is trying to defend but Carter finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Chase wants to control but Carter is keeping busy and won't allow it.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Chase is trying to control but Carter passes into side control!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Carter's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Chase tries to clinch but Carter moves out of range.
Carter fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Chase avoids it really well and circles away.

Carter closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Chase did well to prevent Carter getting side control.
Carter lands with a punch from half guard.
Chase works his way to full guard. Good work.
Chase looking to hit a scissor sweep but Carter is one step ahead there.
Carter is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Carter in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Carter controlling from the top position.
Carter thows a big elbow that misses.
Carter sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Chase's guard.
Chase is looking for a sweep. Carter is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Chase trying to control from the bottom.
Chase wants to improve his position but Carter is controlling well.

Chase is trying to stand back up but Carter is controlling him
Chase trying to control here but he's found himself mounted! Oh no!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Carter landing strikes from the mount.
Carter throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Chase because Carter loaded up on that one.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Carter lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Chase hang on?
Carter controlling from the full mount.

Carter goes for an armbar but Chase turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Chase.

Chase throws a strike but Carter rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Chase is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Carter stands up and waves to Chase to follow him.
Carter tries a low kick but Chase avoids it.

Carter drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Carter decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Carter closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Carter lands in his opponent's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brent Carter dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Carter keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Chase throws a head kick that half lands.
Chase looks to score with a jab to the body but Carter is just out of range.
Carter misses with a jab, cross combination.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Carter.
Chase throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Carter takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Chase sizes up Carter with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Chase throws a front kick aimed at Carter's knee but Carter avoids it well.
Chase fails to land with a series of punches.
Chase takes a body punch but keeps moving.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Chase throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

so Carter counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Chase takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Carter controls from within his opponent's guard.
Carter throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Chase working a defensive guard here.

Carter gets to his feet. Chase looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Carter avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Chase with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Carter to score with a decent uppercut.

Chase throws a hook to the side of Carter's head but Carter sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Chase misses with a wild body shot.
Carter fails with the takedown.
Carter shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Chase as he avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Brent Carter. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Chase throws a sloppy body shot

and Carter counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Carter.

Carter wants the takedown. Chase is fighting it off but Carter persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Chase's guard against the cage.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Chase is trying to control the position but Carter postures up.
Chase looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Carter puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Chase is trying to control but can't.
Chase might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Carter kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Chase wants to control but Carter passes into side.
Chase stops Carter from passing to mount.
Carter content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Vincent Chase has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Carter lands some shots froms side control.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Chase is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Chase is looking for a sweep.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Carter, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
