PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Avtomat Kalashnikov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Quinton Evans (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Evans has chosen 2-Pac-Breathin' as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Avtomat Kalashnikov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Quinton Evans!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Wesley Smith and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A jab from Evans finds it's way through Kalashnikov's defenses.


It looks like Avtomat Kalashnikov has been cut.
Evans wants to clinch up but Kalashnikov keeps it at a distance.
Evans throws a series of punches but Kalashnikov avoids them all with ease.
Evans throws an overhand right that lands on Kalashnikov's shoulder, as Kalashnikov tries to avoid the shot.
Evans throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Evans misses with a two punch combination.
Kalashnikov shoots in for a takedown but Evans shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A jab from Evans misses.
Evans misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Evans thows a body shot but no joy.
A head kick misses from Kalashnikov.
A telegraphed right hand from Evans misses the target.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Kalashnikov turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Kalashnikov tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Evans swivels and escapes.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Evans throws a lazy head kick
and Kalashnikov counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters.
The fight stays on the outside here - Evans looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Evans looks to clinch
and Kalashnikov counters with a good, hard body kick but Evans shrugs it off.
Kalashnikov lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
Kalashnikov fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Evans avoids it really well and circles away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Avtomat Kalashnikov. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Evans swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

Evans misses with a straight left.
A looping hook to the body misses from Evans. Kalashnikov does a little dance to reset his feet.
A low kick from Evans is predictable there
and Kalashnikov counters with a left and a right that stings Evans.
Evans throws a leg kick that is checked
and Kalashnikov counters with a series of strikes. Evans will be more careful next time no doubt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Quinton Evans will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Avtomat Kalashnikov's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

and Kalashnikov counters with a nice low kick that buckles Evans's knee momentarily.
Kalashnikov throws a head kick that misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Evans.

and Kalashnikov counters with an outside leg kick.
Evans wants to clinch but Kalashnikov slips to the side
and Kalashnikov counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Kalashnikov uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Evans.

and Kalashnikov counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Avtomat Kalashnikov is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Kalashnikov is trying hard to land a takedown here. Evans sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Kalashnikov throws a left and a right that both miss
and Evans counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Evans is looking to clinch.
Kalashnikov shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Evans counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Evans trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Evansis looking to pass into half guard but Kalashnikov pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Kalashnikov is in guard.
Evans looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Evans had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Kalashnikov defends it easily.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Evans is breathing heavily.
Evans avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Evans preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Evans working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Kalashnikov.
Evans pulls Kalashnikov in to control the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Evans is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

and Kalashnikov counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Evans is lucky that one didn't land flush.

and Kalashnikov counters with a three punch combo that has Evans backing up. Evans nods at Kalashnikov to acknowledge the strikes.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Kalashnikov lands a high kick!


It looks like Quinton Evans has been cut.
Kalashnikov misses with a takedown attempt

and Evans decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Kalashnikov's guard.

Evans drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Kalashnikov manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Evans has Kalashnikov in his guard.
Kalashnikov makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Kalashnikov loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Kalashnikov chips away with some ground and pound.

Evans is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Evans takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Evans looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kalashnikov is one step ahead there.

Kalashnikov in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Kalashnikov avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Evans is looking for a triangle but Kalashnikov pushes his legs off easily.
Kalashnikov keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Evans's head.
Kalashnikov chips away with some ground and pound.
Kalashnikov postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Evans escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kalashnikov gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Evans looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kalashnikov cracks Evans with a solid left hand.
Kalashnikov postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Evans escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kalashnikov gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Kalashnikov stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Evans swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Evans is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Kalashnikov might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Kalashnikov is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Kalashnikov lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Kalashnikov postures up in Evans's guard and throws a big left but Evans blocks it.

Kalashnikov stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Evans swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Kalashnikov with a flurry of punches that miss.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Evans is on top in guard.
Evans sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Kalashnikov's guard.

Evans is looking for a kimura but Kalashnikov is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Evans to get the leverage.

Evans is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Kalashnikov has managed to free his arm - good work.
Evans wants to pass to mount but Kalashnikov is defending the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Evans is trying to work for a kimura but Kalashnikov is defending well.

Kalashnikov kicks off Evans and gets to his feet.
Evans tries to score a power double leg takedown but Kalashnikov sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Evans somewhat.
Kalashnikov throws a head kick that looked like it stung.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Avtomat Kalashnikov.
I think Kalashnikov has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
