PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Antti Atleetti (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pencil Neck (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Atleetti comes to the cage accompanied by Beyonce - Halo. Neck has chosen Rolling Stones - Paint it black as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Antti Atleetti!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Pencil Neck!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Matti Vanhoillinen and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Neck wants to clinch.
Atleetti throws a right and a left that Neck avoids nicely.
Atleetti thows a body shot but no joy.
Atleetti moves out of range of the body kick.

Neck has closed the distance and engaged Atleetti in a clinch.
Atleetti is trying to force a seperation but Neck has the dominant position.
Atleetti is trying to break free.

Neck gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Neck is looking to take a break and control but Atleetti is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Neck is working for a submission of some sort.
Atleetti missing with punches from the bottom.

Neck wants to work for an arm triangle but Atleetti is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Neck wants to lay and pray for a moment but Atleetti keeps working.
Neck thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Atleetti's head.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Neck takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Atleetti tests Neck's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Atleetti throws a combination. Neck tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

Atleetti rushes Neck and presses him up against the cage.
Atleetti tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Neck smiles and moves away.
Neck showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Atleetti.

Atleetti cracks a nice hook into Neck's ribs.

Neck gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Neck is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Atleetti drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Atleetti jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Neck wants to get back to his feet but Atleetti is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Atleetti is stalling in the full guard.
Neck wants to sweep but no luck.
Atleetti won't allow Neck to get back to his feet.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Neck connects with a solid leg kick.

Neck shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Atleetti wants to improve his position but Neck is controlling well.
Atleetti is breathing heavily.
Neck content to control rather than advance.

Neck decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Atleetti looks to land a combination but Neck avoids it well.
Neck fails in his attempt to clinch.
Neck closes the distance but Atleetti moves to the side
and Atleetti counters with a left to the body.
Neck displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Atleetti.
Atleetti connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Neck shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Atleetti counters with a right hand to the body.
No joy there for Atleetti, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Atleetti throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Atleetti stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Pencil Neck will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Neck shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Neck showed some decent athleticism there.
Atleetti missing with punches from the bottom.
Neck performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

Atleetti is refusing to be controlled, as Neck sits in half guard.

Atleetti looking for submissions off his back.
Neck passes to side control.

Neck thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Neck trying to control the position but Atleetti is working away.

Neck tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Neck has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Atleetti sneaks back into half guard.
Atleetti is pressing down on Neck's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Neck postures up.

Atleetti looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Neck slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Atleetti wants to control but Neck postures up.

Neck working the ground and pound from side control.
Neck is looking to take a break and control but Atleetti is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Neck stands up.
Neck attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Neck tries to clinch there but Atleetti circles away.

Neck closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Neck lands in his opponent's guard.

Neck wants to stand but Atleetti has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Atleetti has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Neck doesn't defend quickly enough and Atleetti has managed to lock this one up! Can Neck escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Atleetti on a fantastic submission victory.
