Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jose Garciaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Houston Alexanders!
The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Paulo Santos and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Garciaz gets a takedown into half guard.
Alexanders has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Garciaz is working away from the top position though.
Garciaz is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Garciaz working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Garciaz stands up out of the half guard.
Garciaz's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Garciaz duly obliges.
Garciaz scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!

Garciaz looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Alexanders is not content to let Garciaz control the position.

Garciaz thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Garciaz not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Garciaz connects with a nice short shot to Alexanders's temple.

Alexanders really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Garciaz. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Garciaz thows a huge punch but Alexanders dodges it nicely.

Garciaz is working for a kimura but Alexanders is defending it quite comfortably.
Alexanders wants to get back to full guard.
Alexanders is trying to control but can't.

Garciaz looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Alexanders with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Garciaz has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Alexanders wants to get back to full guard.
Garciaz trying to control the action but Alexanders is working from the bottom.
Alexanders is looking to control Garciaz's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Alexanders avoid being mounted?

Alexanders wants to control but Garciaz is keeping busy.

Garciaz is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Alexanders sees it coming and defends easily.

Alexanders tries to get to full guard but Garciaz has control of the leg.
Alexanders keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Garciaz thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Alexanders's head.
Garciaz is thwarting Alexanders's attempts to control the position.
Garciaz throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Alexanders wants to sweep but Garciaz has passed to side control!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Alexanders is looking to get back to his feet here but Garciaz is keeping cool and he's managed to take Alexanders's back.
Garciaz lands shots from the back.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Garciaz is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.
Garciaz has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
The referee is taking a good look at Alexanders as he is on the wrong end of some big shots from Garciaz!
Garciaz connects with a big shot to the side of Alexanders's head.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Garciaz gets his hooks in and is throwing strikes.
Garciaz lands a shot to the head.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Alexanders tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Garciaz shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Garciaz was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Garciaz lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Alexanders is looking to improve his position but Garciaz isn't that keen on the idea.

Alexanders in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Oooooh, big shot lands for Garciaz! Alexanders is hurt baaadly! Garciaz is firing away with more strikes - Alexanders is covering up... the ref is warning him to do something. He's just covering up though still and the ref has to step in to end the fight! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:01 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Jose Garciaz!
