Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between John Schulz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Niels Bohr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). John Schulz has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, John Schulz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Niels Bohr!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Lou da Vinci and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bohr displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Schulz throws out the jab.

Schulz fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Bohr sprawls well initially but Schulz persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Schulz is working for a kimura but Bohr is defending it quite comfortably.

Schulz is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Bohr sees it coming and defends easily.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Bohr can do anything to dispel that myth.

Schulz looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Schulz is working for a kimura but Bohr is defending it quite comfortably.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bohr works his way to full guard. Good work.
Bohr trying to strike off his back.
Schulz postures up.

Bohr will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Bohr striking off his back but it's not causing Schulz any problems.
Schulz pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Bohr is keeping the position for now.
Bohr really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Schulz. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Schulz gets the takedown into side control.
Bohr is looking for a sweep.

Schulz is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Bohr is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Bohr tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Schulz working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.

Schulz thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Bohr throws a couple of strikes even though he's not really in a good position to do so.

Schulz is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Bohr is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Schulz throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Bohr tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Bohr striking from the bottom but nothing landed.
Schulz scoring with punches and elbows.
Schulz throws a strike aimed at the side of Bohr's head but Bohr avoids it well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Schulz tries for a kimura but Bohr is defending well.
You can see the frustration on Bohr's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Bohr might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Schulz kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Schulz working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bohr is trying to get back to his feet.
Bohr tries to bench press Schulz off him but Schulz keeps the position.

Schulz tries for a kimura but Bohr is defending well.
Bohr misses with an elbow from the bottom.

Schulz is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Bohr has escaped the position, nice work there.
Schulz is breathing heavily.
Bohr is looking to regain half guard here but Schulz keeps moving and retains side control.
Bohr can't do much from the bottom here.
Bohr is looking for a sweep.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Schulz tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Schulz has hold of Bohr's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Bohr tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Schulz cranks the arm and Bohr screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Bohr, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:22 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). John Schulz!
