PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Raoul Duke (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jerry Cristo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys are coming into the fight with injuries so let's see if that has a bearing on the fight. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Raoul Duke!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jerry Cristo!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Alexandre Firmino and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cristo bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
Cristo is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Duke is breathing heavily.
Duke takes a head kick and keeps coming.

Duke scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Duke lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.

Duke cracks Cristo with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Cristo really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Duke. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Cristo tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.

Duke lands with a nice looking elbow that stuns Cristo.

Duke is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Duke gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Duke gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Duke apologises and we restart here on the feet.
Cristo lands a high kick!
Duke could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Cristo.

Cristo gets caught flat footed, as Duke shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Cristo wants to stand but Duke is controlling the position.
Duke wants to control from the top but Cristo keeps moving.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Duke shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Cristo napping and manages to drive through into side control!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Duke shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Duke showed some decent athleticism there.
Cristo is looking to escape.

Duke seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Cristo for as long as he can get away with.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Duke connects with a nice short shot to Cristo's temple.

That's time! Duke's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Duke closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Duke lands in his opponent's guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Duke accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Raoul Duke overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Cristo must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Cristo throws a head kick that half lands.
Both fighters circling a little - Cristo finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Duke bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Cristo is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Duke has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Duke connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Cristo some visible discomfort.
Duke cracks Cristo with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Duke lands a nice forearm strike.
Duke trying to control the action but Cristo is working from the bottom.
Duke tries to advance to mount but can't.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Jerry Cristo has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

And that's the end of the fight!
Raoul Duke showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Duke, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
