Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ugly Kid Joe! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jake Wylde Rhoads! The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Winston Howard and Damien Edna.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Excellent takedown into side control there by Wylde Rhoads. Joe is trying to buck Wylde Rhoads off. Wylde Rhoads is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Joe is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Joe tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Wylde Rhoads wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Wylde Rhoads tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Joe tries to get back to half guard but can't. Wylde Rhoads is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Joe is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Wylde Rhoads wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Joe, who protects the arm well. Joe knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Wylde Rhoads on the ground.
That's one minute gone in the round. Wylde Rhoads is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Joe knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Joe wants to get back to his feet. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Wylde Rhoads works to advance to full mount. Joe defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs. Joe is in all sorts of trouble here.
Wylde Rhoads is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Joe can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Joe keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Joe is working hard here to advance position. Joe defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Wylde Rhoads.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Joe working to try and regain half guard.
Wylde Rhoads moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Joe has worked his arm free - good work by Joe!
Joe is looking for a sweep. Wylde Rhoads is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Joe is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Joe prevents Wylde Rhoads from moving into mount. Wylde Rhoads working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Wylde Rhoads looks gassed! Wylde Rhoads has hold of Joe's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Joe seems comfortable defending it but Wylde Rhoads has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Joe is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Joe is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Wylde Rhoads couldn't care less - he's delighted!
