Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Phil Berry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Mad dog (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Berry comes into the arena with Tony Allen - Take Me Higher blaring out of the sound system. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mad dog tries a head kick but it misses.
John Mad dog seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Berry darts in and clinches Mad dog up against the cage. Mad dog lands a shot to the body. Berry lands an elbow that stopped Mad dog in his tracks for a moment. A short uppercut from Mad dog. Berry fails to pull guard.
Berry pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Berry is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Berry walks into a straight right hand from Mad dog.
It looks like Phil Berry has been cut. Mad dog lands with a shot to the body. Berry is looking to clinch. Berry stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Mad dog. Mad dog lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Mad dog misses with a two punch combination.
Berry tries to clinch but Mad dog moves out of range. Mad dog throws a series of punches but Berry moves out of range. Berry closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Mad dog to the mat! Mad dog manages to get full guard. Mad dog preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Mad dog is on top in guard.
Mad dog wants to get up but he can't break Berry's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mad dog won't allow Berry to sweep him here. Mad dog postures up in Berry's guard and throws a big left but Berry blocks it. Mad dog is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Mad dog is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Berry has a closed guard, preventing Mad dog from standing up. Berry might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Berry is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Mad dog is aware though and is defending well. Mad dog stands up from Berry's guard - Mad dog perhaps looking for a knockout. Nice uppercut there from Mad dog. Berry looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Berry sitting in guard here, content to control. Berry trying to control the position from guard on top but Mad dog is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Mad dog tries to get to full guard but Berry has control of the leg. Berry scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Mad dog blocking the ground and pound attempt from Berry. Mad dog wants to control but Berry is keeping busy and won't allow it. Berry works his way into full mount! Mad dog is working to get back to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Mad dog tries to hold on but Berry pushes him away. Mad dog regains half guard. Berry prevents Mad dog from improving his position. Berry is trying to control. Mad dog wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Berry is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Mad dog is concentrating on defense, preventing Berry from advancing position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A telegraphed right hand from Mad dog misses the target. Berry misses with a hook. Mad dog ducked under it nicely. A big right from Berry misses. Berry drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Berry tries for a kimura but Mad dog is defending well. Berry is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Mad dog knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Mad dog is looking for a sweep. Mad dog manages to get back to half guard.

Berry got a little sloppy there for a moment and Mad dog has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Berry has managed to get both his arms back between Mad dog's legs - danger averted. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Mad dog is breathing heavily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Berry working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Mad dog is trying to control the position but Berry postures up. Berry wants to pass the guard but Mad dog is keeping the position. Berry scoring with punches to the head and body. Mad dog has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Berry can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Mad dog wants to sweep but no luck. Mad dog keeping moving, preventing Berry from controlling successfully.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mad dog lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Berry! Berry tries to hold on but Mad dog postures up. Mad dog looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet. Berry regains half guard. Mad dog wants to stand up but Berry has a hold of him and won't allow it. Berry is trying to get back to full guard.

Mad dog is looking to stall here but Berry recovers full guard. Berry tries to land a sweep but no joy. Berry wants to stand but Mad dog is controlling the position. Mad dog drops back looking for a leg! Berry is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Berry manages to kick Mad dog off! Mad dog jumps back into Berry's guard. Berry looking for a guillotine here but Mad dog defends easily.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Mad dog wants to stand and escape but instead Berry has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

and Mad dog counters with a head kick. Mad dog has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight. Mad dog wants to clinch and Berry counters with a three punch combo that has Mad dog backing up. Mad dog nods at Berry to acknowledge the strikes. Berry throws a right and a left that both miss. Berry is looking to clinch but Mad dog is avoiding it.
Berry closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Mad dog did well to prevent Berry getting side control. Mad dog tries to get to full guard but Berry has control of the leg. Mad dog takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Berry controlling the pace.

Mad dog gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Berry to score an easy takedown into full guard. Mad dog tries to land a sweep but no joy. Berry content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Mad dog looking for a guillotine here but Berry defends easily.
Berry has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Berry's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Berry fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Mad dog manages to avoid it. Berry tries to bum rush Mad dog with a series of wild strikes but Mad dog uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Berry has managed to clinch.

Mad dog moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination. Mad dog keeps the fight on the outside.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Berry gets a clinch. Mad dog is leaning against Berry and scores with a nice uppercut to the body. Berry tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Mad dog smiles and moves away.

Berry gets a takedown into half guard. Berry wants to stand up but Mad dog is controlling the position.
