Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
15 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ricky Venable! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Steve McRae! The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Gregory Folan and Ian Loll.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A head kick misses from McRae. Venable with a hook. An inside leg kick lands from Venable. A decent looking body kick lands there for Venable. No luck for McRae with that takedown attempt. Venable finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Ricky Venable seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Venable cracks McRae with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage. Venable keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
McRae shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Venable sprawls well. Venable wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. McRae gets slowly back to his feet. Venable connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. A head kick misses from McRae. Venable lands a nice looking body kick. Venable connects with a right hand. McRae shakes it off. Venable slips under a jab. Venable scores with a leg kick.
Venable connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son. A nice inside leg kick there by Venable. That's going to slow McRae down. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Venable lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
That's one minute gone in the round. McRae throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Venable's waist but Venable gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing McRae off to one side. Ricky Venable has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Steve McRae. McRae looks gassed! Venable looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Ricky Venable is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Venable connects with a high kick. Venable connects with a solid leg kick. Venable scores with a jab to the head.
The crowd cheers as Venable lands an impressive looking overhand right. McRae doesn't seem phased though. McRae sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs. Venable lands a jab. Venable lands with a kick to the temple. McRae shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
McRae is rocked! Venable grits his teeth and throws a big right-left combo! McRae takes both shots clean on the chin and is out cold! Venable cracks him once more on his way down, as the crowd goes wild! They enjoyed that one!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:40 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Ricky Venable!
