Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Peter Rodriguez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Derrick Layne (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Peter Rodriguez has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Peter Rodriguez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Derrick Layne!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Cecil Peabody and Gwen Towbar.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Layne shoots for a double leg takedown but Rodriguez sprawls well. He's pushed Layne's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Rodriguez feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Layne wants to control but Rodriguez passes easily into half guard.
Layne tries to get to full guard but Rodriguez has control of the leg.

Rodriguez blocks the strikes from Layne.
Layne is looking to control Rodriguez's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Layne avoid being mounted?
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Rodriguez performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Rodriguez closes the distance and clinches.
Layne is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Layne tries to pull guard but Rodriguez holds him up against the cage and eventually Layne drops back down to his feet.
Layne is trying to drag Rodriguez to the mat but Rodriguez just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Peter Rodriguez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Derrick Layne.

Rodriguez gets control of Layne's arms and successfully pulls guard. Rodriguez will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Rodriguez wants to sweep but no luck.
Rodriguez is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Layne stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rodriguez swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Layne looking to sit in guard and control but Rodriguez gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Rodriguez seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Rodriguez is breathing heavily.
Rodriguez shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Layne sprawls well. Layne wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Rodriguez gets slowly back to his feet.

Layne gets a takedown into half guard.

Layne maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Rodriguez could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Layne has cracked it and Rodriguez is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Layne!
