Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Fred Johnson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Querk Bulldog! The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Summer Carpenter and Winston Howard.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Johnson closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Johnson wants to get back to his feet.
Johnson thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Johnson is looking to stall here but Bulldog recovers full guard. Johnson tries to free his leg and advance position but Bulldog is retaining full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Johnson looking to sit in guard and control but Bulldog gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Bulldog stops Johnson from standing up. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Bulldog drops back looking for a leg! Johnson is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Johnson manages to kick Bulldog off! Bulldog jumps back into Johnson's guard. Johnson is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Bulldog is controlling him.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Bulldog tries for a takedown but Johnson circles away easily and Johnson counters with a left and a right that stings Bulldog. Bulldog looks gassed! Johnson throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Johnson fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Bulldog, pushing him back against the cage. Bulldog has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Johnson avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch. Johnson lands a takedown into guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Johnson trying to control the position from guard on top but Bulldog is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Johnson has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Bulldog avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Johnson postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Bulldog is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Johnson, into his guard. Johnson wants to stand up but Bulldog is controlling him.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Johnson has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Bulldog off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds. Querk Bulldog seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Bulldog tries for a takedown but Johnson circles away easily and Johnson counters by moving into the clinch. Fred Johnson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Querk Bulldog. Johnson displaying some good clinch control by pressing Bulldog up against the cage. Johnson successfully pulls guard.
Johnson pushes Bulldog off and scrambles back to his feet.
Bulldog tries for a takedown but Johnson circles away easily and Johnson counters with a series of strikes. Bulldog will be more careful next time no doubt.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Bulldog misses with a takedown and Johnson counters with a lovely straight right hand! Bulldog closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Johnson did well to prevent Bulldog getting side control. Bulldog prevents Johnson from standing back up.
Bulldog is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Johnson kicks off Bulldog and gets to his feet. Bulldog has his takedown stuffed and Johnson counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Bulldog! The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Bulldog tries to hold on but Johnson pushes him away. Johnson wants to control the pace but Bulldog is squirming around nicely. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Fred Johnson dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Johnson is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Johnson pushes Bulldog off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there. A lazy left from Johnson finds it's target. Bulldog shoots and misses and Johnson counters with a nice double leg into guard. Johnson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Bulldog on the ground. Bulldog looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Johnson wants to stand and escape but instead Bulldog has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bulldog thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Johnson has his feet on Bulldog's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work. Johnson shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Bulldog manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Johnson wanted to stand there but Bulldog had control of the position. Bulldog controlling the position. Fred Johnson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Johnson accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Johnson looking to pass the guard. Bulldog being controlled here, momentarily. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Bulldog is on top in guard.

Bulldog is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Johnson is just riding it out for now. Bulldog eventually gives up the hold. Johnson tries to kick Bulldog off but Bulldog keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Fred Johnson dominated that second round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! And we move into the final round!

That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Johnson is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Bulldog defends it well.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Johnson throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Bulldog was covering up waiting for the punch and Johnson finishes the takedown easily into guard. Bulldog looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Johnsonis looking to pass into half guard but Bulldog pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Bulldog is in guard. Bulldog drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Bulldog jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Bulldog won't allow Johnson to get back to his feet. Bulldog thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Bulldog drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Bulldog jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Bulldog prevents Johnson from getting back to his feet. Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Bulldog doesn't succeed with the takedown and Johnson counters with a nice double leg into side control. Bulldog won't be happy with that. Johnson working the ground and pound but Bulldog is defending the strikes. Bulldog managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Johnson.
Querk Bulldog has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Bulldog throwing some weak shots from the bottom that do no damage.
And that's the end of the fight! Fred Johnson showed his dominance in that final round. Well Johnson has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
