PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Matthew McPain (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Duke Davis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Duke Davis will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Matthew McPain!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Duke Davis!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Gregory Folan and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Davis throws a head kick that misses.

McPain shoots in but no luck this time.
Davis tries to clinch but McPain is having none of it.
No joy there for Davis, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
McPain showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Davis.
McPain falls off balance throwing a combination
and Davis counters with a one-two to the body.
Davis bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
Davis wants to clinch.
McPain shoots in but no luck this time.
Matthew McPain seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

McPain decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Davis pushes McPain off looking to stand but McPain dives back in and keeps control.

McPain decides to stand and escape the position.

McPain changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Davis looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Davis is trying to get back to his feet.

McPain decides to stand up, so the ref orders Davis to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
McPain lands a with a good body shot.
Davis keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
McPain throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

McPain scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
McPain is breathing heavily.

McPain looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Davis is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, McPain asserts his dominance and retains side control.

McPain wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Davis, who protects the arm well.
Davis is trying to buck McPain off.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Davis is trying to escape the position but McPain is controlling the position.
McPain's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Davis stuffs the takedown attempt from McPain. McPain gets slowly back to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Matthew McPain. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A left and a right from Davis both land. Nice combination.
McPain misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
A combination from Davis does no damage.

McPain feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

McPain is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Davis is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
McPain content to stall in guard here.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Davis looks to land a combination but McPain avoids it well.
Davis throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent McPain stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
McPain shoots in and drives through. Davis sprawls well.
McPain stalks Davis and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Davis's face. Davis staggers backwards, shaken.


It looks like Duke Davis has been cut.

Davis pushes McPain up against the cage in a clinch.
McPain keeps control of Davis as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
McPain blocks a couple of punches on the inside.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
McPain is working for takedown but Davis is calmly controlling the position for now.

Davis breaks the clinch.
McPain fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
McPain misses with an uppercut
and Davis counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Davis gets cracked there but stands up to it.
McPain throws a lazy right hand but Davis sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Davis showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from McPain.
McPain dodges the punch combination from Davis.
Davis throws a combination that misses
and McPain counters with a right hand to the body.
McPain misses with a head kick.
Davis throws a combination. McPain tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Davis works over McPain's head and body with a nice combination.
A punch combination from Davis misses.
The fight stays on the outside here - Davis looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
McPain swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Davis counters with a stiff right hand.
Davis connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Davis throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Davis throws a right and a left that McPain avoids nicely.

McPain shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Davis's guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Davis keeping moving, preventing McPain from controlling successfully.
Davis utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Matthew McPain dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Duke Davis's cut.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Davis keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Matthew McPain is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Davis throws a right hand that McPain ducks under and follows up with a left that McPain also avoids with ease.
McPain shoots in and drives through. Davis sprawls well.
McPain throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Davis's waist but Davis gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing McPain off to one side.
A head kick misses from Davis.
McPain connects with a jab and follows up with a big overhand right! Oh that's hurt Davis! He's out on his feet! McPain rushes in and drops Davis with another big right hand, forcing the referee to stop the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:19 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Matthew McPain!
