6 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ninja Assassin! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Xander Ralphinski! The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Robert Twigg and Gwen Towbar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A thudding body kick lands there by Ralphinski!
Assassin drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Assassin working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Assassin tries to advance to mount but Ralphinski instead regains half guard. Assassin is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Ralphinski still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Ralphinski has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work! Assassin is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Ralphinski's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. Assassin makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Assassin.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ralphinski won't allow Assassin to sweep him here. Assassin looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Ralphinski must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Assassin looking for a guillotine here but Ralphinski defends easily.
Ralphinski is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Ralphinski postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Assassin is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Ralphinski, into his guard. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Ralphinski bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Assassin's guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Assassin wants to sweep here but Ralphinski controlling him for the moment. Ralphinski tries to free his leg and advance position but Assassin is retaining full guard. Assassin throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Assassin has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Ralphinski is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Assassin. Ralphinski avoids the strikes from the bottom by Assassin. Ralphinski thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Assassin manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! Assassin passes to full mount! Assassin with a couple of short strikes. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Assassin goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Ralphinski turns into him and now he's in Assassin's guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Assassin is pressing down on Ralphinski's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Ralphinski drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Ralphinski jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Assassin has his foot on Ralphinski's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Ralphinski works his way back into a safe position though. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Ralphinski is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Assassin defends it well. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ralphinski throws a low kick but Assassin moves out of range easily. Assassin shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Ralphinski's guard. Assassin passes into half guard. Ralphinski is in trouble now - Assassin has advanced to mount! Assassin cracks Ralphinski with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Assassin goes for an armbar but Ralphinski turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Ralphinski. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Assassin is on top in guard.
Assassin has gone for a leg lock! Ralphinski slips out almost immediately though and dives into Assassin's guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Assassin looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Assassin manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Assassin is working for a guillotine from mount but Ralphinski frees his head quite easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Assassin is looking to work his way around to Ralphinski's back. He needs to be careful though, as he's in danger of losing this dominant position. Assassin looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet. Assassin moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Ralphinski has worked his arm free - good work by Ralphinski!

Ninja Assassin overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Assassin lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Ralphinski down.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Assassin is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Ralphinski is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Assassin cracks Ralphinski with a big right hand but Ralphinski just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Assassin goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Ralphinski has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Assassin but great work by Ralphinski. Assassin is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Assassin regains full guard. Nicely done.
