Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Juan Gonzalez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kiyah Matsumoto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gonzalez comes to the cage accompanied by Entre Dos Aguas. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Juan Gonzalez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Kiyah Matsumoto!
The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Alexandre Firmino and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gonzalez closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Matsumoto is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Gonzalez gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Matsumoto pushes Gonzalez back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.
Gonzalez tries a knee to the head but he's missed.

Gonzalez fails to pull guard.
Gonzalez tries a knee to the head but Matsumoto blocks it.
Matsumoto takes an elbow to the forehead.

Gonzalez pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.
Matsumoto can't find room to land a body shot as Gonzalez controls the action.

Gonzalez pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Matsumoto connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Gonzalez's hands.

Matsumoto shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Matsumoto sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

You get the feeling that Gonzalez really doesn't like being in this position too much.

Matsumoto throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Gonzalez because Matsumoto loaded up on that one.
Gonzalez is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Matsumoto can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Gonzalez is looking to escape.
BOOM! Matsumoto connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Gonzalez is trying to get back to his feet but can't.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Matsumoto throws a strike there. Gonzalez manages to avoid it well and slips a leg under to get to half guard.
Gonzalez tries to get to full guard but Matsumoto has control of the leg.
Matsumoto thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Gonzalez's head.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Matsumoto is nestled in close to Gonzalez, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Gonzalez tries to kick Matsumoto off but Matsumoto keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Gonzalez wants to control but Matsumoto is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Gonzalez pushes Matsumoto off looking to stand but Matsumoto dives back in and keeps control.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Matsumoto decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Gonzalez's guard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Matsumoto fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Matsumoto misses with a takedown attempt - Gonzalez sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Matsumoto throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Gonzalez was covering up waiting for the punch and Matsumoto finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Gonzalez kicks Matsumoto off and gets to his feet.
Matsumoto is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Gonzalez rather than just go for the knockout.

and Matsumoto counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Gonzalez's guard now.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Matsumoto misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Gonzalez.
Gonzalez swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Matsumoto shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Gonzalez as he jumps to the side.
Juan Gonzalez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kiyah Matsumoto.

Matsumoto closes the distance and clinches.
Matsumoto misses with a body punch.
Matsumoto blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Kiyah Matsumoto showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. And we move into the final round!


Gonzalez throws a low kick, looking for Matsumoto's leg but Matsumoto calmly moves out of range.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Matsumoto accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Gonzalez not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Matsumoto throws a strike but Gonzalez rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Matsumoto wants to improve his position but instead Gonzalez has moved into half guard.

Matsumoto is looking for a sweep. Gonzalez is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
It looks like Gonzalez is going to stand back up.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Matsumoto tries to free his leg and advance position but Gonzalez is retaining full guard.
Matsumoto throws and elbow that misses. Gonzalez uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Matsumoto's guard. Nice move by Gonzalez!
Gonzalez has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Matsumoto is proving hard to escape from.
Gonzalez has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Matsumoto has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Gonzalez can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Matsumoto has his foot on Gonzalez's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Gonzalez works his way back into a safe position though.
Matsumoto takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
