PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Amare Nash (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steve Begin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Begin comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Kid rock, American Badass kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Steve Begin is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Amare Nash!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Steve Begin!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Ian Loll and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nash tries to work over Begin's front leg with a kick but Begin checks it.
Begin misses with a low kick as Nash jumps back.
Some wild striking there from Begin.
Nash closes this distance looking for a takedown but Begin circles away.
Begin throws a right and a left that both miss.
Nash misses with a takedown attempt - Begin sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Nash closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Nash looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Begin with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Begin slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Begin has his foot on Nash's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Nash works his way back into a safe position though.
Begin trying to control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Begin looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Nash throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Begin working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Nash doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Nash manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Nash loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Begin is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Begin is looking for a triangle but Nash pushes his legs off easily.
Begin working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Nash.
Begin trying to keep a closed guard but Nash is proving a slippery customer.
Begin wants to sweep here but Nash controlling him for the moment.
Nash cracks Begin with a solid left hand.
Nash stands up over Begin, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Begin utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Nash postures up.
Nash thows a big elbow that misses.
Nash postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Nash throwing strikes but missing.

Begin looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Begin looks gassed!

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Begin escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Nash gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Nash has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Begin is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Nash is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Nash working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Begin's head.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Nash with a nice head shot there.
Begin keeping full guard, as Nash tries to pass.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Nash landing some decent shots from guard.
Begin is trying to control the position but Nash postures up.
Nash working some strikes from top position.
Nash lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Nash slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Nash connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Begin some visible discomfort.


Begin is rocked!


It looks like Steve Begin has been cut.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Nash scores with a big shot from side control... and another... and another! Oh Begin is done here - save him referee! More strikes land and eventually the ref does step in and Nash can finally stop beating on his defenseless opponent!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:21 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Amare Nash!
