PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Rondon Ragen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Ennis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rondon Ragen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, James Ennis!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Summer Carpenter and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ragen shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Ragen wants to pass to mount but Ennis is defending the position.
Ennis tries to roll over but Ragen keeps him under control.

Ennis moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Ennis is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Ragen defends well.
Ragen stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ennis swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Ennis kicks Ragen off and gets to his feet.

Ragen has taken the fight to the clinch.
Ennis is pressed up against the cage. Ragen has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Ennis down to the mat. Ennis avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Ennis shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Ragen is trying desperately to improve position.
Ragen tries to hold on but Ennis postures up.
Ennis has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Ragen's face.
Ennis in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.

Ennis working for a guillotine from mount but Ragen is in no mood to give up.

Ragen tries to hold on but Ennis pushes him away.

This has been an exciting period of action!
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Ennis controlling the position easily from mount.
Ennis is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Ragen can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Ragen wants to control but Ennis is having none of it.

Ennis has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Ragen tries to reverse the position but Ennis maintains control.

Ragen is bucking up trying to escape but Ennis cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Ennis wants to finish this one by submission but Ragen is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Ennis.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Ragen is trying to escape the mount.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Ennis is landing with some decent strikes but Ragen is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

James Ennis dominated that round.
That's time! Ragen's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Ennis shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Ennis thows a huge punch but Ragen dodges it nicely.
Ragen is refusing to be controlled, as Ennis sits in half guard.

Ennis wants to control but Ragen is keeping him busy.
Ragen has hold of Ennis's hands but Ennis slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Ennis looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Ragen with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Ragen knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Ennis on the ground.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Ennis is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Ragen sees it coming and defends easily.
Ennis wants to take a breather but Ragen is having none of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ragen has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Ennis is working away from the top position though.
Ennis working over Ragen with some ground and pound. Ragen looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Ragen is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Ennis scores with a couple of nice shots.

Ennis maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Ragen could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Ennis has cracked it and Ragen is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Ennis!
