PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Mr Jobber (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jay Nichols (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mr Jobber has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 49 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mr Jobber!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jay Nichols!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, George Francis and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nichols circles away from the clinch attempt.

Nichols moves into the clinch successfully.

Nichols has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Jobber regains guard immediately.
Nichols sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Jobber's guard.
Jobber could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Nichols is looking for a kimura here.
Nichols performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Jobber missing with punches from the bottom.
Jobber throws a sloppy strike from the bottom. He's now off balance and Nichols manages to pass to side control.
Jobber gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Jobber throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing.
Jobber might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Nichols controlling the position easily from mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Nichols stands up from mount. Strange move.

Nichols fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Jobber, pushing him back against the cage.
Jobber misses with a hook from the clinch.
Jobber misses with a punch on the inside.
Jobber tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Jobber misses with some punches.
Jobber throws a punch but it's blocked by Nichols.

Nichols breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Nichols throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Jobber wants to clinch but Nichols slips to the side

and Nichols counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Nichols with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

Nichols is working for a submission of some sort.
Nichols looks gassed!
Jobber tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Nichols is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Jobber flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Jobber punching from the bottom.
Nichols is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Nichols seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Jobber is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Jobber strikes from the bottom but Nichols uses the opportunity to move to side control.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Jobber is looking for a sweep.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jobber tries to strike from the bottom but misses.
Jobber tries to strike but it doesn't land.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Nichols drives through and clinches with Jobber against the cage.

Nichols gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Nichols slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Jobber throws a couple of punches but he's in a bad position and they don't land.

Nichols working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Nichols trying to control the position but Jobber is working away.
Nichols tries to move to mount but Jobber blocks the move with his legs.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Nichols might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Jobber kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Jobber tries to strike but it doesn't land.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
A solid body kick from Nichols.
Mr Jobber seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jobber wants to clinch but Nichols slips to the side

and Nichols counters with a nice double leg into side control. Jobber won't be happy with that.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Jobber trying to remain calm as Nichols controls from the top position.
Nichols blocks the strikes from Jobber.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jay Nichols dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Mr Jobber's cut.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Jobber tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Nichols counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Nichols.
A right hand to the body from Nichols.
Nichols holding his opponent close, against the cage.
Nichols blocks an uppercut.
Jobber misses with some punches.
Nichols stalling the fight.

Nichols has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Jobber clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Jobber is trying to break free.
Nichols biding his time, looking for the opening.
Jobber knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Nichols on the ground.
Nichols has the hooks in. Jobber is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
A bit of a pause in the action here. Nichols controlling the positon.

Nichols has the hooks in and he's looking for a rear naked choke here. Jobber is defending well but eventually Nichols manages to get an arm under the chin and he's locked on the RNC! Jobber has no choice but to tap now! He does! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:05 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Jay Nichols!
