The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kaplan shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Magnusson is trying to defend but Kaplan finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kaplan perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Kaplan missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Magnusson regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Kaplan.
Kaplan stands and steps away. Magnusson gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Kaplan postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Kaplan won't allow Magnusson to get back to his feet.
Magnusson is working an open guard so Kaplan takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Magnusson doesn't manage to clinch there - Kaplan circles away.

Kaplan rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Magnusson moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Magnusson displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Kaplan throws out the jab.
Magnusson tries to close the distance and clinch but Kaplan swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Kaplan throws a right and a left that Magnusson avoids nicely.
Magnusson looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Kaplan misses with a takedown attempt - Magnusson sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Kaplan misses with a series of wild punches.
Kaplan looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Kaplan tries to pass the half guard into mount. Magnusson knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Magnusson tries to kick Kaplan off but Kaplan keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Magnusson regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Kaplan.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Kaplan steps into range and cracks Magnusson with a monster punch that buckles his knees! Magnusson flops backwards and Kaplan dives into his guard looking to finish!
Magnusson is rocked!
It looks like Thor Magnusson has been cut.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Kaplan controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Magnusson is still in real trouble! Can Kaplan finish him?
Magnusson has a closed guard, preventing Kaplan from standing up.
Magnusson seems to have recovered his senses.
Magnusson is looking to stand up but Kaplan isn't so interested in that idea.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Kaplan gets to his feet - Magnusson follows without any prompting.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Magnusson tries to clinch up.
Kaplan throws a right hand that Magnusson ducks under and follows up with a left that Magnusson also avoids with ease.
Kaplan misses with a two punch combination.
Magnusson shoots in and drives through. Kaplan sprawls well.
Kaplan shoots in for a takedown but Magnusson shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Kaplan goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Magnusson misses with a combination
and Kaplan counters with a takedown into side control.
Magnusson is breathing heavily.
Kaplan scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Magnusson to see if he's OK.
Kaplan grinds an elbow into Magnusson's temple.
Magnusson is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Kaplan has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Kaplan lands with a jab that stuns his opponent. Magnusson is looking to close the distance but Kaplan sees it coming and throws a beautiful knee! Magnusson crumbles to the mat and that's all she wrote! Let's hope Magnusson is OK because that was naaaaaasty!
