Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rakishi Fatu! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 19 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Santian Sultan! The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Luis Engracia and Alexandre Firmino.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sultan shoots for a double leg takedown but Fatu sprawls well. He's pushed Sultan's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Sultan slips under a jab from Fatu. Fatu drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Fatu is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Sultan has escaped the position, nice work there. Fatu is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Sultan knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Fatu tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Fatu is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Sultan has escaped the position, nice work there. Fatu is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Sultan is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Fatu is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Fatu swings around for an armbar but Sultan sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Fatu's guard. Fatu keeping moving, preventing Sultan from controlling successfully. Fatu has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Sultan can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Fatu is looking for a triangle but Sultan pushes his legs off easily.
Fatu can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Sultan controls the pace. Sultan trying to control but Fatu is working from the bottom. Sultan passes easily into side control. Nice work. Sultan is looking to take a break and control but Fatu is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Fatu is trying to improve his position. Sultan working the ground and pound. A lull in the action here as Sultan stalls from top position. Fatu is trying to get back to half guard. Sultan content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though. Sultan advances nicely into full mount. Fatu is looking to improve his position but Sultan isn't that keen on the idea.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sultan is controlling this nicely and is looking to make no mistakes. Fatu is trying to wiggle out of this horrible position. Fatu flips to his side and attempts to get a leg in for half guard. Sultan anticipates the leg and manages to get behind Fatu and secures both hooks! This could be bad! Sultan slips an arm under Fatu chin and tries to position for a rear naked choke. Sultan has worked the choke in now and it looks tight. Sultan is squeezing on Fatu like an anaconda would it's prey. Fatu fails to tap and has fallen unconscious! We've got ourselves a winner by way of a rear naked choke!
