PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Troyer Edgecombe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Diogo Costa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Edgecombe comes into the arena with Killling in the Name - Rage Against the Machine blaring out of the sound system. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Edgecombe moves into the clinch successfully.
Costa tries to land a knee to the head but misses.

Costa is looking to stand up but Edgecombe won't let him.

Costa has gone for a leg lock! Edgecombe slips out almost immediately though and dives into Costa's guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Costa escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Edgecombe gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Costa rushes Edgecombe and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Come on Edgecombe - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.

Edgecombe has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Costa uses from the top position.

Costa shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Edgecombe sprawls well. Edgecombe wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Costa gets slowly back to his feet.

Edgecombe wants the takedown. Costa is fighting it off but Edgecombe persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Costa's guard against the cage.
Edgecombe is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Edgecombe has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Edgecombe works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Edgecombe stops Costa from getting back to his feet.
Still in half guard, Edgecombe seems content to control.

Edgecombe is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Costa has managed to free his arm - good work.

Edgecombe bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Costa is looking for a sweep.
Edgecombe misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Costa is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Edgecombe asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Costa bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Edgecombe is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Edgecombe seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Edgecombe moves into the clinch.
Costa has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Edgecombe is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Edgecombe tightens his grip and picks Costa up, before dumping him to the ground. Costa manages to land in guard.

Edgecombe drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Costa manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Edgecombe has Costa in his guard.

Costa wants to stand but Edgecombe is controlling his posture from full guard.

Costa avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Edgecombe wants to sweep here but Costa controlling him for the moment.
Costa must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Costa loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Edgecombe wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Costa is now in half guard.
Costa seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Edgecombe does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Edgecombe shoots in for a double leg but Costa sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

You can see the frustration on Edgecombe's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
The ground and pound from Costa seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

Costa tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Costa stands up and beckons Edgecombe to his feet.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Edgecombe tries to break free but Costa pushes him back against the cage.

Edgecombe has hold of one of Costa's legs. Costa is fighting the takedown attempt but Edgecombe gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Edgecombe postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Costa is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Edgecombe, into his guard.
