PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Terrance Alves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Colt Williams (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Alves comes to the cage accompanied by Gangsta Nation- Ice Cube. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Terrance Alves!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Colt Williams!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Summer Carpenter and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Williams instigates a clinch.
Williams changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Alves fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Williams darts in and clinches Alves up against the cage.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Williams.
Alves stops a takedown attempt from Williams.

Williams breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Alves bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Alves in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Alves seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Williams for as long as he can get away with.

Alves decides to stand back up.
A punch combination from Williams misses.

Alves gets the takedown into side control.
Alves content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Williams tries to improve position but can't.

Alves takes a little break here. Williams wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Alves has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Alves has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Williams tries to reverse the position but Alves maintains control.
Williams wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
Alves moves to the back position.
Alves slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Terrance Alves just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

Williams tries to stand but Alves is controlling from the bottom.

Alves wants to get back to his feet but Williams is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Alves has Williams pulled in close to control his posture.
Williams must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Alves is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Williams wants to stand but Alves has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Williams stands up and waves to Alves to follow him.
The fight stays on the outside here - Williams looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Williams shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Alves as he jumps to the side.
Terrance Alves has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Colt Williams.

Williams tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Alves wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Alves happy to just control the position for now.
Williams wants to get back to his feet but Alves drags him back down.
Alves tries to move to mount but Williams blocks the move with his legs.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Williams can't do much from the bottom here.
Williams is looking for a sweep.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Alves tries to close the distance and clinch up but Williams swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Williams wants to clinch.
Alves throws an overhand right that lands on Williams's shoulder, as Williams tries to avoid the shot.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Alves slips a jab and a cross from Williams.

Alves tries to keep at a distance but Williams has taken the fight into the clinch.

Alves is fighting off a takedown attempt but Williams is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Alves to the mat. Alves regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Williams postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Williams is looking to stand up but Alves won't let him.
Williams is looking to work some ground and pound but Alves has wrist control.
Williams is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Alves bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Williams's guard.
Alves is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Williams wants to sweep but no luck.
Alves seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Williams pulls Alves in close to prevent any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Alves's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Williams doesn't succeed with the takedown

so Alves counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Alves trying to control but Williams is working from the bottom.
Alves slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Williams tries to improve position but can't.
Williams is pushing Alves's head away, looking to escape. Alves manages to hold on to the position though.
Williams is not content to let Alves control the position.
Alves slows the pace down.
Williams is looking for a sweep.

You can see the frustration on Williams's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Williams is breathing heavily.
Alves remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Alves's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Alves tries to move to mount but Williams blocks the move with his legs.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Williams wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Alves fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Williams sprawls well initially but Alves persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Alves uses his free foot to push down on Williams's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Williams.

Alves wants to control the pace but Williams is squirming around nicely.

Williams tries to roll over but Alves keeps him under control.
Alves is pressing down on Williams's thigh, looking to free his foot. Williams is holding on for now.

Alves is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Williams defends it well.
Terrance Alves overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Alves shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Williams's guard.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Alves in particular looking to stall.

Williams throws a series of punches but Alves moves out of range.
Williams is looking to clinch.

Nice takedown defense from Williams. No joy for Alves on that attempt.
Alves takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Williams throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Alves sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Alves closes the distance and clinches up with Williams, looking for a takedown. Alves pushes Williams against the cage but Williams circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Williams throws a head kick that misses.
Alves shoots in but Williams avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Alves throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Williams's waist but Williams gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Alves off to one side.
Williams changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Alves tries to avoid it but Williams manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Alves to the ground. Alves escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

and Alves counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Alves forces his way into half guard.
Alves is looking to advance position but Williams won't allow it.
Alves controlling the pace.
Alves seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Williams does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Alves is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Alves is keen to just control but Williams is a slippery customer.
Alves is thwarting Williams's attempts to control the position.

Alves is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Williams can't fight it off and eventually Alves manages to take the fight to the floor. Williams looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Williams wants to stand and escape but Alves is having none of it.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Alves, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
