Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Bryan Johnson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Miki Thron! The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Arvi Lind and Ben Zyskovitsi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Thron shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Johnson napping and manages to drive through into side control! Johnson parries the strikes from Thron easily there. Thron is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Johnson to escape.
Thron swings around for an armbar but Johnson sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Thron's guard. Thron looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Thron looking for subs off his back but Johnson has passed one foot through into half guard.
Johnson trying to pass the guard but Thron defending well. Thron wants to get back to his feet.
Thron looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Johnson prevents Thron from improving his position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Johnson moves into side control, avoiding the strikes from Thron.
Thron trying to control but Johnson flips him over like a cheap hooker and has his back! Thron tries to escape but Johnson has the hooks in and won't let him break free. Thron is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Johnson gets his way!
Johnson lands a punch that was close to the back of the head but the ref thinks it's OK. Johnson looking for the RNC. Thron wants to escape the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Thron trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble. Thron breaks Johnson's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Thron pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Johnson is keeping the position for now. Johnson working a defensive guard here.
Johnson wants to get back to his feet but Thron is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Thron is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Thron missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Thron is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Johnson is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Johnson has escaped and now he's on top! Johnson drops back, looking for a kneebar! Thron looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Thron looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Thron! Johnson is breathing heavily. Thron is working to tighten is grip on Johnson's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Johnson has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Thron is really squeezing tight and eventually Johnson passes out! Thron breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
