Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Emil Costas! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
9 - 9 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Frade Francke ! The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Sergei Dronov and Dmitry Maklakov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Costas looks to throw the jab but Francke is out of range. Costas stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Costas wants it to stay on the feet. Costas throws a low kick but Francke avoids it. Wow, both these guys are really going for it! Costas misses with a head kick.
Costas rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Francke moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Costas pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. Costas misses with a wild combination.
Francke closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Costas to the mat! Costas manages to get full guard. Francke passes Costas's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Costas wants to get back to his feet. Costas knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Francke on the ground. Costas is trying to escape back to his feet but Francke uses the scramble to pass into side control.
Costas is trying to control Francke 's posture but Francke avoids it. Francke tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Francke has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Costas wants to control but Francke postures up.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Costas is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Francke asserts his dominance and retains side control. Francke advances to full mount. Costas is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. You get the feeling that Costas really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Francke looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet. Costas tries to reverse the position but Francke maintains control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Costas tries to hold on but Francke pushes him away. Francke swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Costas is now in Francke 's guard. A big mistake from Francke there, giving up the dominant position! Francke is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Costas scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Costas passes easily into side control. Nice work. Francke is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Costas's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. Costas decides to return to a standing position. Emil Costas is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Costas goes for a spinning back kick but it misses. Francke slips a jab and a cross from Costas.
Francke tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Costas swivels and escapes. Costas misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Francke takes a kick to the body and keeps moving. Costas works Francke 's body with a nice hook. Costas scores with a leg kick.
Costas stuns Francke with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range. Costas scores with a jab to the jaw. Francke moves out of range of the body kick from Costas.
Costas lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook. This has been an exciting period of action! Costas scores with a leg kick.
Costas tests Francke 's chin there with a solid looking shot. Costas throws a head kick that misses. Costas throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Francke . Costas moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Emil Costas dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Francke scores a takedown into full mount! Costas is trying desperately to improve position. Costas squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.

Francke sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Costas trying to control the action but Francke is working from the bottom. Francke is looking to improve his position.

Costas wants to pass the guard but Francke is defending well. Costas seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Francke does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Francke looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Costas controlling the pace. Francke tries to roll over but Costas keeps him under control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Costas throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Francke 's head. Costas lands with a nice body kick. Costas slaps away a takedown attempt from Francke , before circling back to the center of the mat. Costas scoring well with a low kick there.

Costas throws a head kick that misses. A punch combination from Costas misses. Francke tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him. Costas lands a jab to Francke 's midsection. Francke tries for a takedown but Costas sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Francke walks into a left hand. Costas throws a right and a left that both miss. Costas misses with a jab, cross combination.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Costas throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Costas swinging wildly here.
Francke shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Costas's guard. Francke postures up.
Costas wants to stand but Francke is controlling the position. Francke is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Francke trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Francke is looking to pass into half guard but Costas pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Costas is in guard. Costas avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Costas fails to land with a series of punches.
Francke takes a kick to the side of the head. Costas scores with a head kick.

Costas lunges at Francke with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Francke 's hand. Francke shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Costas but Costas pushes him off and we're back to square one. Emil Costas has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Frade Francke . A telegraphed takedown attempt from Francke is defended easily by Costas. Costas connects with a right hand. Francke shakes it off. Costas lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Francke circles away quickly and effectively. Costas throws a head kick but Francke moves out of range.

Emil Costas dominated that second round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!
Costas stuffs the takedown. Costas throws a sloppy head kick and Francke moves out of range easily. Francke slips a jab and a cross from Costas.
Costas lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw. A good leg kick by Costas. Costas fakes the leg kick and cracks Francke in the body. Costas works Francke 's body with a nice hook. Francke shoots in for a takedown but Costas shows good takedown defense. Costas moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination. Francke takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket. Emil Costas seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Costas will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Costas fakes a head shot and lands one to the body. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Francke tries to clinch up but Costas circles away and keeps his distance. Francke walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush. Francke throws a jab but it's blocked by Costas.

Costas did well to prevent Francke getting side control. Costas is looking to control Francke 's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Costas avoid being mounted? Francke tries to pass to full mount but Costas defends it. Costas is looking for a sweep. Francke is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Francke is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Costas doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Francke . Francke seems to be looking for submissions.

Frade Francke has got the better of the ground game so far. Costas has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Francke is working away from the top position though. Francke is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Costas doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Francke . Costas tries to kick Francke off but Francke keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Francke is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Costas has managed to free his arm - good work. Costas wants to get back to his feet. Frade Francke has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Costas landing a few short strikes.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Francke steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Costas. That one must have hurt. Francke avoids a kick to the body.
Costas smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button. A solid body kick from Costas. Emil Costas is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Costas bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut. Costas lands with a slapping head kick. No luck with that takedown attempt from Francke . Emil Costas has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Frade Francke . Francke avoids the head kick by Costas.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Costas throws a body punch but Francke moves out of range. Costas swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Francke shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Costas sprawls well. Costas wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Francke gets slowly back to his feet. Costas thows a body shot but no joy. Costas is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot. Francke tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Costas swivels and escapes. Francke takes a head kick and shrugs it off.

Emil Costas is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Costas throws a wild body kick that Francke sees coming a mile off. Francke darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Francke not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
And that's the end of the fight! Emil Costas showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Costas, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
