Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jefro Bodean!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Quinton Palmer!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Hugh Johnson and Winston Howard.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fight stays on the outside here - Palmer looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Bodean shoots in for a takedown but Palmer shows good takedown defense.
Bodean closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Palmer is looking to reverse the position.
Bodean wants to lay and pray for a moment but Palmer keeps working.
Bodean laying and praying for a moment but Palmer takes advantage and regains half guard.
Bodean is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Palmer moves into full guard.
Palmer is trying to keep Bodean in close.
Bodean stopping the sweep attempt from Palmer.
Palmer has his foot on Bodean's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Bodean works his way back into a safe position though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Bodean trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Bodean stopping the sweep attempt from Palmer.
Palmer working for submissions but it's allowed Bodean to get to half guard.
Bodean wants to take a breather but Palmer is having none of it.
Bodean tries to pass to full mount but Palmer defends it.
Bodean works his way into side control.
Bodean tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Bodean has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Bodean is breathing heavily.
Palmer tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Bodean wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Palmer stops Bodean from passing to mount.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Palmer is looking to regain half guard here but Bodean keeps moving and retains side control.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Bodean has an Americana. Palmer didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Bodean is delighted and gyrates infront of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Bodean hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:26 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Jefro Bodean!
