Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
8 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Katsuyari Monoriku!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ryuuji Takasu!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Kenichi Hosakawa and Hirohito Nitta.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Monoriku rushes Takasu and pushes him back against the ropes in a clinch.
Monoriku using the Thai clinch to land knees to the body.
Takasu pushes Monoriku back against the ropes and unloads with a body punch.
Monoriku with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Monoriku's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Monoriku throws a head kick that half lands.
Takasu changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Monoriku tries to avoid it but Takasu manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Monoriku to the ground. Monoriku escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Monoriku needs to keep his hands up - Takasu had a free shot at his head there.
Monoriku clinches.
Takasu tries to circle away but Monoriku has him pinned against the ropes.
Monoriku misses with a knee strike.
Monoriku tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Monoriku landing knees to the head.
It looks like Ryuuji Takasu has been cut.
Monoriku turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Monoriku manages to end up in side control.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Takasu tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Monoriku wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Takasu manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Monoriku not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Monoriku trying to pass the guard but Takasu defending well.
Monoriku throwing shots but Takasu is blocking nicely.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Takasu wants to improve his position but Monoriku is controlling well.
Takasu is trying to control but can't.
Monoriku keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Takasu looking to force a kimura from the bottom here. He's concentrating on that move too much though and Monoriku pushes past his half guard into mount!
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Monoriku is landing with some decent strikes but Takasu is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Takasu is squirming around, avoiding Monoriku's attempts to control the action.
Takasu reaches up to try and control the position but Monoriku seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Takasu rolls and tries to escape and now Monoriku has his back!
Monoriku is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
Monoriku is persistently looking for the submission but Takasu is defending it well.

Takasu covering up well and avoiding damage.
Monoriku not allowing Takasu to control his hands.
Monoriku controlling the position well here. Takasu rolled but Monoriku kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.
Monoriku is trying to stick to Takasu's back but Takasu is turning into Monoriku. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Monoriku's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Takasu.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Takasu wants to pass the guard but Monoriku is keeping the position.
Takasu trying to control but Monoriku is working from the bottom.
Monoriku wants to stand and escape but Takasu is having none of it.

Monoriku working for a triangle but Takasu defends it easily.
Monoriku looking for a sweep. Not yet Monoriku, not yet.
Takasu trying to control but Monoriku is working from the bottom.
Monoriku is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Monoriku circles away from the clinch attempt
and Monoriku counters with a single leg into guard. Takasu didn't expect that.

Monoriku is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Takasu looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Monoriku has picked Takasu up and slammed him! Takasu can't keep hold of the triangle and Monoriku manages to pass to side control!
Takasu struggling a bit here.
Takasu tries to contro but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad.
Takasu wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Monoriku.

Monoriku looking for a guillotine from mount but Takasu is having none of it.
Monoriku lands with some strikes.
Takasu is rocked!

Takasu is still in real trouble! Can Monoriku finish him?
Monoriku unloads with some vicious shots from mount and Takasu wants out - he looks towards the referee who steps in to save him! Monoriku celebrates on the ropes and the crowd goes wild!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 5:27 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Katsuyari Monoriku!
