Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Carlos Penagos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rick Rivers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Penagos comes to the cage accompanied by Somebody Gonna Get Their Ass Whooped!. Rivers has chosen Superbeast as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rick Rivers!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Winston Howard and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No joy there for Rivers, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Penagos throws a series of punches but Rivers avoids them all with ease.
Penagos looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Rivers attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Rivers ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Penagos moves away.
Rivers looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Penagos misses with a double jab
and Rivers connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Rivers lands a two punch combo.
Penagos throws the left hand but Rivers avoids the punch easily.
Rivers scores with a body shot.
Penagos takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Rivers lands with a kick to the ribs.
Rivers dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
An inside leg kick lands from Rivers.
Penagos is breathing heavily.
Penagos throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Rivers counters with a nice uppercut.
Rivers throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Rivers lands a nice shot to the body.
Rivers takes a swing at Penagos's ribcage but misses.
Rick Rivers seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rivers scores with a decent looking hook.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Penagos takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Rivers is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Penagos rather than just go for the knockout.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Rivers moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Rivers lands with a nice body punch.
Rivers connects with a single shot there.
Rivers cracks the inside of Penagos's front leg.
Penagos on the wrong end of a kick to the body.
Rivers lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Penagos circles away quickly and effectively.
Rivers scores with a shot to the body.
Rivers pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Rivers throws a leg kick but Penagos checks it.
Penagos steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Rivers. That one must have hurt.
Rivers lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Penagos backs up against the cage.


It looks like Carlos Penagos has been cut.
Rivers just misses with a punch to the body.
Rivers throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Penagos crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Rivers - the referee stops the clock and Penagos gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Rivers. Penagos manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Rivers misses with a looping right.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Penagos displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Rivers throws out the jab.
Rivers thumps Penagos with a low kick.
Rivers lands with a good body shot.
Penagos needs to keep his hands up - Rivers had a free shot at his head there.
Rivers throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Rivers misses with a jab, cross combination.
Rivers throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Jab, jab by Rivers - just one landing.
Rivers uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Penagos.
Penagos throws out a loose jab but Rivers uses good head movement to avoid it.
Penagos blocks the body kick.
Rivers throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Penagos sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Rivers connects with a jab.
Rivers tries to land a front kick but Penagos steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
A cross from Rivers lands.
Rivers is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Penagos had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté.
Penagos misses with a body punch
and Rivers counters with a stiff right hand.
Nice shot lands for Rivers.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rivers connects with a jab and follows up with a big overhand right! Oh that's hurt Penagos! He's out on his feet! Rivers rushes in and drops Penagos with another big right hand, forcing the referee to stop the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:08 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Rick Rivers! Rick Rivers retains his middleweight title!
