Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jose Barreto! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, James Dantes! The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Leandro Rodrigues and Alexandre Firmino.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Dantes clinches up against the cage. Dantes managing to block the knees to the body from Barreto.
Dantes is looking to control Barreto's arms but Barreto gets an underhook and turns him. Now Dantes has his back to the cage. Dantes goes for a takedown in the clinch but Barreto prevents it.
Dantes can't break the clinch.
Dantes tries for a takedown but Barreto manages to get underhooks.
Dantes jumps guard but Barreto stands there with Dantes around his waist. Dantes gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

It looks like James Dantes has been cut. Dantes looks gassed! Barreto throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Dantes blocks it with crossed arms. Barreto scores with a knee to the head.

A head kick misses from Dantes. Barreto tries to clinch and Dantes counters with a single leg into guard. Barreto didn't expect that. Dantes controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
That's one minute gone in the round. Dantes wants to control from the top but Barreto keeps moving. Dantes stops Barreto from standing up. Dantes trying to control but Barreto is working from the bottom. Barreto wants to stand but Dantes is controlling the position. Barreto seems keen to control Dantes's posture.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Dantes throws a big right hand that misses. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground. Barreto pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Barreto fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Dantes. Barreto rushes Dantes and presses him up against the cage. Dantes takes a knee right on the jaw!

Dantes wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Dantes tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Barreto just stands there and leans against the cage. Dantes gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Barreto regains guard.
Barreto wants to stand and escape but Dantes is having none of it. Dantes wants to control from the top but Barreto keeps moving. Barreto is trying to keep Dantes in close.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Dantes wanted to stand there but Barreto had control of the position. Dantes controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Dantes wants to control from the top but Barreto keeps moving. Dantes with a flurry of punches that miss. Barreto has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Dantes off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds. Dantes has managed to clinch.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Barreto throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Dantes blocks it with crossed arms. Dantes lands a body shot in the clinch.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Barreto tries to land a knee to the head but misses.

Barreto won't allow Dantes to sweep him here. Barreto seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Barreto trying to control the position from guard on top but Dantes is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Barreto wants to stand and escape but instead Dantes has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Dantes accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Dantes prevents Barreto from escaping the position. Dantes trying to control the action but Barreto is working from the bottom. Barreto regains half guard there - taking advantage of Dantes's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.
That's one minute gone in the round. Dantes sitting and controlling from the half guard. Barreto has one foot on Dantes's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet. Barreto tries a head kick but it misses.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Barreto tries to clinch up and Dantes holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Barreto tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Barreto crunches a lovely knee into Dantes's ribcage. Jose Barreto has scored more points in the clinch so far. Dantes wants a takedown.

Dantes has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. Dantes keeping moving, preventing Barreto from controlling successfully. Dantes is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Dantes is working an open guard so Barreto takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Dantes tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Barreto swivels and escapes. Jose Barreto has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of James Dantes. Barreto lands a monster head kick that reverborates around the arena! The crowd goes wild as Dantes crumples to the floor! Barreto milks the crowd's applause and if that isn't knockout of the night, I will be very surprised!
