Mittendorf feints and as Maximus raises his hands in defense, Mittendorf changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Mittendorf fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Maximus avoids it really well and circles away.

The referee asks Mittendorf politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Mittendorf prefers to stall for the moment though.
Mittendorf's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Mittendorf lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Mittendorf will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Maximus up against the cage.

Maximus with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Mittendorf to score with a decent uppercut.

and Mittendorf counters with a head kick. That will keep Maximus thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

The cut above Arilius Maximus's eye is starting to cause him problems now.

Mittendorf breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Mittendorf really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Maximus displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Mittendorf.

Mittendorf jumps guard and drags Maximus to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mittendorf has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Mittendorf has his foot on Maximus's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Maximus works his way back into a safe position though.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
