Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between mj maq (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jay Catapang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, mj maq!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jay Catapang!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Cecil Peabody and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
maq tries to clinch up but Catapang circles away and keeps his distance.

Catapang looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Catapang prevents maq from improving his position.
Catapang thows a huge punch but maq dodges it nicely.
maq is refusing to be controlled, as Catapang sits in half guard.
Catapang is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and maq reverses the position - he's now on top in Catapang's guard.
maq controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Catapang has a closed guard, preventing maq from standing up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
maq trying to control the position from guard on top but Catapang is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Catapang really doesn't want to stay on the ground with maq. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
maq stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Catapang swivels though and keeps the full guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Catapang can do anything to dispel that myth.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

and Catapang counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Catapang controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
maq lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Catapang!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Catapang lands a big shot there that rocks maq but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

That's time! maq's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Catapang shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

maq bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Catapang working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. maq doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. maq manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
maq shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

Catapang lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

maq wants to hold on but Catapang pushes him away.
maq is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
maq prevents Catapang from taking his back.
maq throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing.
maq tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Catapang wants to control the pace but maq is squirming around nicely.
maq keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
maq wants to control but Catapang is having none of it.
Catapang scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish maq?

Jay Catapang showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


The fight stays on the outside here - maq looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

A head kick from maq lands but Catapang takes it in his stride.

Catapang is bucking up trying to escape but maq cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
maq content just to control the position here.
maq will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
maq wants to control the pace but Catapang is squirming around nicely.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Catapang just trying to survive but maq is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
Catapang covering up well under a barage of strikes.
maq cracks Catapang with a big shot to body and one to the head - really punishing Catapang from the back mount here, looking to soften him up.
Catapang is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by maq.
Will maq go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?
Catapang is trapped and maq is scoring with shots to the head and body.

maq is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Catapang has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Catapang looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
Catapang has his hands over his head blocking the strikes from maq.
Catapang trying to control the hands but maq won't let him.
Even with his hooks in, maq manages to miss with strikes from the back.
mj maq has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Jay Catapang is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
maq throws a big right hand but he misses and hits the mat. Ouch.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to mj maq.
I think Catapang has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
