1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Yevgeni Ratchenko! The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Igor Prikhodko and Vladimir Khabensky.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ratchenko swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Jim closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Ratchenko tries to bench press Jim off him but Jim keeps the position. Jim in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows. Ratchenko taking a bit of punishment here - Jim scoring with strikes. Jim tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it. Ratchenko tries to improve position but can't. What's Ratchenko going to do here then? He's in a bit of a pickle. Ratchenko is looking to reverse the position. Jim working the body and head with strikes. Ratchenko is trying to control Jim's posture but Jim avoids it. Jim wants to control but Ratchenko is keeping him busy.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ratchenko manages to get back to half guard. Jim wants to take a breather but Ratchenko is having none of it. Jim prevents Ratchenko from standing back up.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Jim sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Ratchenko's guard. Jim lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Jim not landing any meaningful shots this time. Jim is trying to control the action in half guard but Ratchenko is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Jim has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Ratchenko is looking for a sweep. Jim is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Jim seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Jim is trying to control the action in half guard but Ratchenko is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Ratchenko blocking the ground and pound attempt from Jim. Ratchenko on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Ratchenko tries to clinch there but Jim circles away.
Jim keeps the fight on the outside. Jim shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Jim is breathing heavily. Ratchenko trying to control but Jim postures up.
Jim landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jim cracks Ratchenko with a solid left hand. Jim working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Jim distracts Ratchenko with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Jim scoring with some ground and pound. Jim preventing the sweep. Ratchenko is breathing heavily. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Ratchenko is on top in guard.
Jim lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Ratchenko!
That's one minute gone in the round. Jim looking to control and managing it successfully. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Ratchenko is bucking up trying to escape but Jim cracks him with another couple of good strikes. Jim with the ground and pound from mount. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Jim is in the full mount, landing strikes. A nice elbow there by Jim. Jim is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Ratchenko can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jim looking to finish Ratchenko with some ground and pound. This is bad for Ratchenko! Jim sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Jim lands a nice shot to the head. Ratchenko working to try and regain half guard.
Jim breaks from Ratchenko's wrist control and lands an elbow. Jim landing strikes from the mount and Ratchenko is in trouble! Jim dominating with strikes here. Jim landing strikes, looking to finish!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Jim working away from the top, dropping strikes. Ratchenko is looking to get to half guard. Jim with the ground and pound from mount. Jim trying to control but Ratchenko is having none of it. Jim controlling from mount. Ratchenko is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Jim is in the full mount, landing strikes. Jim controlling from mount. Jim can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Ratchenko is looking to escape. Ratchenko really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

Jim Jim dominated that second round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Jim Jim overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Jim is trying to escape the position but Ratchenko is controlling the position. Ratchenko advances to mount. Ratchenko punching from mount but Jim doing a good job of avoiding damage. Jim is working to get back to half guard.

Ratchenko looking to control but Jim is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Ratchenko goes for an armbar but Jim turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Jim. Ratchenko not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Ratchenko utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Ratchenko looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Jim puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard. Jim lands with a punch from half guard. Nice strikes from Jim there. Jim lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Jim wants to free his trapped foot but Ratchenko is holding on for dear life with his legs. Jim throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Jim performing his best blanket impression for a moment. Jim landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Ratchenko takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better. Ratchenko is not content to let Jim control the position. Jim prevents Ratchenko from escaping the position. Ratchenko is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first. Jim scores with a couple of short elbows. Yevgeni Ratchenko has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. A looping hook to the body misses from Ratchenko. Jim does a little dance to reset his feet.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jim Jim. Well Jim has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win...
