Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mike Pyle! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ken Cornwall! The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Steve Erwin and Bruno Hogan.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cornwall looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Cornwall fails with a takedown attempt. Pyle swats away the attempt to clinch by Cornwall. Pyle drives through with a takedown into guard. Cornwall is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Cornwall keeping moving, preventing Pyle from controlling successfully. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Pyle trying to stand up but can't free himself from Cornwall's guard. Pyle wants to control from the top but Cornwall keeps moving. Pyle is in close to Cornwall's body, working some short punches and elbows.
That's one minute gone in the round. Pyle avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Cornwall is looking for a triangle here but Pyle uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Pyle wants to control but Cornwall is keeping him busy. Pyle working the head and body with strikes. Cornwall is looking to regain half guard here but Pyle keeps moving and retains side control. Pyle tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Cornwall manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Pyle tries to pass to full mount but Cornwall defends it. Cornwall tries to get to full guard but Pyle has control of the leg. Pyle is looking to take a break and control but Cornwall is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Cornwall is trying to get back to full guard. Cornwall regains full guard. Nicely done. Cornwall throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Cornwall had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Pyle is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Cornwall Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Pyle's back instead. Cornwall looks gassed! Pyle trying to control the position but Cornwall manages to sink in the hooks.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Pyle is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control. Cornwall doesn't have the hooks in and Pyle manages to turn into his guard.
Pyle wants to control from the top but Cornwall keeps moving. Cornwall has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Pyle can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Cornwall has his foot on Pyle's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Pyle works his way back into a safe position though. Pyle avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Pyle is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Pyle throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Cornwall works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Pyle content to stall in guard here. Pyle trying to control but Cornwall is working from the bottom. Cornwall is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Pyle pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Cornwall is keeping the position for now. Cornwall had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata.
