PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between David Shields (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Super Slayer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Super Slayer told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, David Shields!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Super Slayer!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Alexandre Firmino and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Slayer thows a body shot but no joy.
Shields looks to land a left hand but Slayer moved out of range nicely.
The fighters circling - Slayer throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Shields walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.


It looks like David Shields has been cut.
Shields misses with an uppercut.
Slayer comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Shields slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.


It looks like Super Slayer has been cut.
Slayer throws a hook to the side of Shields's head but Shields sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Slayer is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Shields throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Slayer throws a lazy right hand but Shields sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Slayer scores with a jab. Shields acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Slayer ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Shields moves away.
Shields ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Slayer throws a lazy right hand but Shields sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Slayer takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Super Slayer seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Slayer throws a hook to the side of Shields's head but Shields sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Shields throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Slayer on the side of the head.

Shields tries to score a power double leg takedown but Slayer sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Shields somewhat.

Shields shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Slayer manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Slayer seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Shields might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Slayer is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Slayer is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Slayer utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Shields has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Shields trying to control the position from guard on top but Slayer is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Slayer has his hands on Shields's head, controlling the position.
Shields pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Slayer is keeping the position for now.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Slayer loads up on a big right hand but Shields slips the punch.
Slayer misses with a jab to the body
and Shields makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Super Slayer dominated that round.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Slayer looks to move to half guard but instead Shields has passed into mount! Damn!
Shields lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Slayer wants to control but Shields is having none of it.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Slayer can do anything to dispel that myth.

Shields wants to take a breather but Slayer is having none of it.

Slayer has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Shields is working away from the top position though.

Shields seems to be working for a kimura but Slayer defends the submission attempt.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Shields wants to take a breather but Slayer is having none of it.
Shields is really struggling to control Slayer but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Slayer throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Super Slayer is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

That was a close second round but I would say that David Shields will probably get the nod.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

David Shields showed his dominance in that final round.
