Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Josh Wilson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Francis Drake! The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Donald Grub and Andrew Berry.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Drake tries to close the distance and clinch but Wilson swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Wilson closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Drake to the mat! Drake manages to get full guard. Wilson preventing the sweep. Wilson trying to control but Drake is working from the bottom. Drake keeping full guard, as Wilson tries to pass. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Drake is on top in guard.
Wilson is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Drake is controlling him. Wilson has his feet on Drake's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work. Wilson closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Wilson pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Wilson shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Drake's guard. Drake working for a triangle but Wilson defends it easily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Wilson got a little sloppy there for a moment and Drake has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Wilson has managed to get both his arms back between Drake's legs - danger averted. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Drake is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Wilson defends well. Drake is trying to keep Wilson in close.
Drake bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Wilson's guard. Drake stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Wilson swivels though and keeps the full guard. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Wilson holds on and takes a little breather.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Drake trying to control the position from guard on top but Wilson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Wilson looking for a guillotine here but Drake defends easily.
Drake pushing down on Wilson's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Wilson is trying to stand back up but Drake is controlling him
Wilson won't allow Drake to pass to mount. Wilson is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Drake pulls his head out easily. Drake is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Wilson is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:05 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Francis Drake!
